    Folks,
I'm looking to get a flash for my D70 - yet another thing to try to squeeze into my already-full kit bag.
I'm leaning towards the Speedlite SB 600, but I keep seeing the SB 800.
What can the 800 do that the 600 can't? I'm not interested in remote flashes or anything like that.
    Any other flash recommendations welcome.

    S.

in this month's Practical photography (or last month's - the one with the 'artistic' nude on the front), there is a group flash test and surprisingly a Metz flash beat both Canon and nikon flashes on their own gear. I'll have a look tonight to see what model it was..

Cheers, late night shopping, I might just have a look at that myself too.

    Comparison here :

I have an SB 800 and I'm v happy with it.
It can even 'talk' to my ancient F4s

I got the SB-800 too, and strangely enough one of the things I preferred over the SB-600 was the display that Ken Rockwell is so disparaging about. With my rather poor short-distance eyesight I find the SB-800's display, although a little 'coarse' looking far easier to read than the tiddly little icons on the SB-600. Mind you I find the same with the LCD display on my D70s. YMMV.

I have to agree with you there and I thought the 800 appeared a bit sturdier(and you'd never know when the extra horsepower might come in handy)

Dont knock the off camera flash. I never thought I'd want it till I had it. Make sure your new flash can handle it.

yeah, sorry I forgot to reply. It was the Metz Mecablitz 54 AF-1 Digital

The basic gist was that it could do everything the Nikon flash could (and sometimes more) do but at a cheaper price

    It's £190. Sure I've already ordered the SB-600 off ebay for £160.
It'll do everything that I need it to do and more...
