Question about recording 2 programmes at once on Sky+?

I got Sky+ about 2 weeks ago and this might be a stupid question but it's been bothering me lately. When I try to record two programmes Sky+ forces me to watch one of them while recording them both. I can't change the channel without stopping one of the recordings. I thought that by turning off Instant Rewind I would be able to change channels as I pleased while the two recordings continued, but this made no difference. Am I doing something wrong or is this how things are supposed to go?

This is the way it works - if you are recording 2 programs at the same time, then you can watch either of these, or a program previously recorded from the planner. You cannot watch any other channel.

the reason is that both tuners are being used. to record 2 channels while watching another would require a 3rd tuner which Sky didnt feel was necessary

Third tuner would also mean a third feed from dish, which some may find a problem.

Is there any way of watching one channel and the main tv and watching a previously recorded programme on another, i know there is two feeds coming into the sky+ box but is there anyway of feeding the second feed to a second tv?

Sky should have allowed a second feed output whereas you could output a second signal throught either rf1 or the second scart, thus allowing viewing of a second channel, thus using fully the potential of having a second tuner.

Tele Satellite review a box this month with two tuners & decoders. It is a lot of extra HW, almost two Sky boxes to do what you want.
