I've never been but it looks to be very reasonable and probably a great day out.

Correct me if I'm wrong but do I remember someone telling me before that there is no betting trackside?

I've been. Got a bus to the track - can't remember where from as I was pretty shattered after taking a train from Rome. It's pretty easy to get there though.

Paid at the turnstiles - a consequence of having a Tote monopoly means very cheap entry and a free, albeit French, racing paper and a free programme (again, en Francais). Racing Post is sold there though so don't worry. No discernable dress code that I was aware of, just dress smart (everyone else does). The grandstand area is huge and the facilities are excellent. A large majority of the crowd seems to be English (the French are not that interested in going - Longchamp midweek barely draws any spectators).

There is, of course, betting trackside but I imagine what was intended was that there are no bookmakers. Plenty of Tote terminals available.

The day itself was quite enjoyable (not quite the atmosphere of Irish Champion Stakes day or Cheltenham) but it was absolutely freezing there the year I went (Dalakhani's year) so watch the weather.
