    Hi

I'm just about to buy one a Dell (I know, I know...) and would appreciate some feedback.

    Dell Dimension 5150

    Pentium D 820 processor (2.8Ghz)
    1024MB RAM
    DVD +/-
    160GB H/d
    X-Fi Xtreme Sound Card
    Radeon X600 256MB graphics card
    Dell Optical Mouse
    Enhanced Multimedia keyboard
    XP Home
3 Year at Home Support (peace of mind)
20.1" Wide Aspect Ultrasharp flat panel monitor

    Cost: €1,085

Seems like a reasonable system to me - the kids will use it for basic games (Rayman, Disney Toontown, Barbie, etc) and my games are limited to paddypowerpoker.com!

I have a set of Harmon Kardon A695 speakers - I pressume with the X-Fi I'll get reasonable sound quality for web radio and watching a DVD.

I've only gone for the 160GB H/d as I was going to stick my old 80GB h/d in to the new system. This has all the music etc on it.

Q: If my old hard drive has MS Office on it, will I still be able to use it on the new system (Office 2000)?

I do a bit of farting around with MS Visual Web Developer and Google Maps, so even though I'd like 2GB of RAM, I figure it'll be something I can stick on in a few months.

I like the idea of the 20.1" WFP monitor rather than the standard 19".

    Any suggestions / advice.

    Obelisk29

Is your old drive IDE? Cos I think the 5150 has SATA drives. SO if you want to add your old IDE drive you need to make sure there is a spare IDE slot. If not, you can get a external caddy and add it as an external drive.

As regards Office, if it is a retail copy of Office, you can install it on the new machine, provided you removing from the old machine. (assuming single user licence). If the Office came with old PC (OEM version) then you can not transfer it to new PC without invalidating the licence.

Other than that spec seems fine for your needs.

You'll have to re-install office on the new PC, you couldn't just run it straight off the new hard drive because it's quite a complex install and puts files everywhere and modifys the registry substantially

    Good spec pc. :D
Ya wont get the full effect of that X-Fi soundcard unless you got a 5.1/7.1 speaker system.
    Not a bad deal.
