    Hey,

in windows when you delete a file it is not actually "gone" and it can be recovered. Does anyone know of any free software that will recover these still remaining files and subsequently any free software that will actually FULLY remove them from the hard disk?

    Thanks.

    Child porn..........Perv......Hehe :D
What you need is eraser. Google it.

Data recovery is the prog to recover them. There are loads of others but i found this prog to be the best. Most let you see the files but you cant recover them until you buy the prog. others let you recover them 1 at a time.

The only way to get rid of it TOTALLY is to take apart the hard drive and burn the platters but I don't think you want that. :) Google what the previous poster suggested.

I have not tested it, but a computer security expert told me that if you "cut" a file and "paste" it off the hard drive it is irretrievably gone

You could just write a load of junk to the hard drive and fill it to capacity, that should prevent recovery. Might write a program to do that.

There are also shredder progs that overwrite the file 1000's of times making it irrecoverable. There's a shredder in McAfee secuirity centre if you have it.

    Hey Everyone,

thanks for the feedback. A while back my hard drive crashed and i had to re-install the OS and lost all my personal data. i'm was thinking of replacing it with a larger hard disk. What i'm hoping to do is recover the old data and complete wipe the hard disk before i try to sell it on.

    Thanks for all your help.

Get DBan. its in the list of essential software in the thread at the top. it'll completely wipe a hd.
