Is it Possible to Watch TV Programs from DVD Recorder on my PC?

    Hi there,

I've recorded some programs from TV on my LITEON DVD recorder (I'm not sure of the model number offhand). They are recorded on standard DVDRWs.

I want to be able to play these files on my computer but when I put the DVD in the computer it wont even recognise it, let alone play the files.

I was hoping trusty VLC media player would be able to handle it as it seems to play nearly all formats I have thrown at it but no joy.

Do standalone DVD recorders record in a special format that can't be read by anything else (except the DVD recorder) or am I doing somthing wrong?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Robert

Did you close the DVD before trying to play it?

I'm not sure to be honest, it's my dad who is having the problem, I'll check with him.

Will it not work if I have not closed it?

I'm assuming this is a process by which you can't add any more files to the disc afterwards?

But if the disc is not closed then the DVD drive will not be able to read the contents and hence no player will work as no files can be seen.

I'll give this a go and hope it works.

Thanks so much for the help.

Aye, there's a "finalize DVD" option, which you must click. Its down near the bottom of the menu on the TV.
