Got stopped at a quiet roundabout checkpoint. Special branch and two other squad cars.

    Roll down window

Me: "Howerye Garda, has a bank been robbed?" *
Garda: "Have ye your license there?"
    *hands over license"
    Garda: "Third provisional?!"
    Me: "That's right yeah.."
    *Blank look on Garda's face*
    Garda: "Thanks"

    Off I go.

I was expecting him to tell me to get out but he didn't. Just goes to show that they're still not enforcing the 3rd provy law. I've been waiting since last October for a test and I can't survive without a car.

Has I not had my L plates, I'm sure he would have said something about that.

    * Probably shouldn't have said that..

"L Plates" I remember i used to have them.......

(Driving a year, Just stopped putting them up, its not enforced)

I still put them up tho if i dont plan on any M50 adventures that morning or when i guar asks me to. The main problem is that mine are magnetic ones and people keep robbing them on me! :(

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Of course he didn't. The gardai don't have the resources to prosecute drivers without a full license that should be accompanied

The waiting list is indeed disgraceful. This should be a prime target for the government to improve :(

Out of interest, how many hours of driving lessons with a qualified instructor have you had over the years?

    None.

When I got insured on my Skoda I did a few test runs in my driveway to get used to the clutch. Then I drove around the estate to get the feel of the car.

I'm a good with mechanics and technical things so I know my engine well. I am always in full control of the car and I NEVER speed or anything like that. I've full respect of the roads.

I think some people just have a 'knack' with cars, I'm one of them. Some of my friends on full licences still don't have a feckin clue - they always miss the obvious dangers on the roads (I hate being a passenger in their cars). And here's me still stuck on a provy. :(

And BTW, I'm on my 3rd provy because I applied for my first one when I was 17 - never drove on it. Then I applied for another one two years later, a month later I moved to another country and never used it. Now I'm back in Ireland on my third.

After the recent court case on provisional licenses its a brave guard that wants to be the first to bring a case under a different charge.

Remember of course that within seconds of getting your full licence you will magically transform into a safe driver.

Without meaning to judge, people know the wait times so would it not stand to reason that you apply for your test straight away and use the 9 -12 month wait to take lessons and learn to drive? Rather than drive on the roads teaching yourself as you go (very dangerous) and then applyin gfor you test after 6 months on the road and still having a 9 - 12 month waiting period ahead when you have to continue driving unaided?

    Just a thought.

sounds like they were looking for other things/people not driving offences.

absolytely right 'lostexpectation'. special branch and 2 squad cars is considered abit heavy for checking tax. Looking for a suspect. Your bank comment probably wasn;t the smartest idea considering the special branch presence too.
