Contracting (VB)

Hi all, I'm a VB programmer with nearly 6 years experience in LIfe & Pensions environment. I'm considering leaving a permanent position for a contract one. Agency said they'd get me 320 euro a day. Does this sound right?

Is a 3 month contract with a large company who they say are 'contract friendly' so there's a good chance that the contract will be renewed. Just wondering how likely this is in people's experience and how the vb contracting market is at present?

    Cheers,

    Les

    Hey Les,

320 is about right for VB6 these days sadly  ... still, keeps the wolf from the door... :D ...Are you in the Dublin area ? if so there's plenty of work. The market here is definitely picking up as far as I can see. I'm not contracting anymore (wife won't let me travel  ) but I keep getting calls & Emails about work.

Your prospects of a higher rate are better if you've vb.Net or c#.net....

If it were me, and this was my first contract I would be trying for 6 months initially... but if you get the interview you can emphasise the fact that you'd be looking for an extension if at all possible and gauge their reaction...

    Fatboy.

never trust an agency when they say the contract is likely to be renewed. remember they are trying to make money.

320 a day for VB sounds quite good, what kind of stuff will you be doing? There is very good money in the .Nets
