Hello guys and girls! I have wanted to get Satellite channels on my Pc for some time now but need some advice please!

I would like to be able to receive the FTA channels like the BBC’s and ITV, what I need to know is if my dish is pointing at Eurobird1, will it also pick up Astra 2B/Astra2D without having to move it?? I assume it does as you don’t have to move a Sky dish and the fact they are all at 28.2°E, or am I being thick? and what else will it pick up?

I have a Samsung syncmaster 244t http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=2662 and would like to be able to pick up the BBC HD channel, will I need a DVB-s2 card for this? If not whets the advantage of a S2 card?

    Thanks in advance guys!

Currently, you will not need a DVB-S2 card to pick up BBC HD, but you likely will in the future. The advantage of a -S2 card is future proofedness, less and less HD channels are going to use convential DVB-S QPSK in the future, it'll either be DVB-S 8PSK or DVB-S2.

You will also need an EXTREMELY powerful computer for decoding MPEG4 HD.

And yes, if your dish is at Eurobird 1 you'll get Astra 2 also, assuming its the right size for yer location, I'm guessing you're here and not southern spain...

    Thanks MYOB

My current PC won’t take HD, I know that, I can run HD divx’s that I have but only in 720p, I have some 1080p stuff but it’s like a slide show!

I am planning to get a
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz
    Ram: Corsair PC4200 DDR2 1024MB
A graphics card that supports H.264
And I already have a Samsung syncmaster 244t monitor, which will take 1080p no probs.

I hope to god the above processor good enough to view BBC HD??

If any of you were in the market for a DVB-S card would you get a S2 card??

    Thanks again!

    I've no idea how a Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz compares to a P4 3GHz but:
I finally managed to get BBC HD on Astra 2d 28.2 installing old driver for above card series 8 instead of the latest 9 series.

    I use p4 3.0 ghz, 1 giga ram, geforce 6600gt agp 128, coreavc 1.1 ( cyberlink i only got 5 fps ), and dvbviever 3.5 or GE.
The colours are now perfect and i can get 25fps, however every now and then i got the picture still or freeze for about half second.

The CPU usage is highly dependent on the codec used. The newer codecs are better, esp for BBC HD which is currently the most resource heavy HD channel.

None of the sat HD channels will be in 1080p - either 1080i or 720p.
