Fair enough the Intel MacBook is only just out of the door in release terms but to be perfectly truthful, the specifications of the system didn't do much for me in comparison with my iBook G4 which I bought in June 2005 as I don't feel there was enough of a jump in specification, so I decided against picking one up. I was hoping someone might have an inkling when Apple are planning on releasing the next generation of the MacBook with its specs a bit more impressive than they are now?, ah and does anyone know when MacOSX 10.5 is scheduled for release?, isn't it January '07 to coincide with Vista?, Thanks..

Well I'm not a Mac user but everything I have read on the switch to Intel has had people say the the performance of the Mac Books was a major step up over the G4 in particular (review of MacBook & MacBook Pro).

As for new models the forthcoming WWDC Apple will unveil the tower units Mac Pro I assume is the name but as for new laptops I doubt it.

The next core in the mobile line from Intel is called Merom which will replace the current Core and be branded as Mobile Core 2 (something like that) and wont be due until the second quarter of 2007. Edit: Seems I was wrong just saw news that the Merom cores will be launching alongside the Core 2 desktop parts though products featuring them will probably not show till August or September still that's better than 07 time frame.

MacOSX 10.5 is rumoured to be near the end of the year expect the preview at the WWDC to give a better idea but it's release date is not linked to Vista's.

You will get incremental CPU speed increases and some GPU increases as more powerful Intel CPU's amd GPU's come out.

I have a Macbook and to be fair it puts my G4 iBook to shame. Its faster in every possible way really, the G4 iBook is really under powered compared to the current crop of Macbooks.

Poor little iceBook... I'll always love mine though as it's the PERFECT size for typing on :D

There are supposed to be a lot of build quality issues around this generation of macbooks. I'd definatly wait. As well as whats linked there, the thermal paste was incorrectly applied to entire batches.
