ok. expecting leaving cert results in 3 weeks with a college placement to follow. however, possibly might secure a job by next week. temporary but the moneys good. is there much point in taking this job for so little time, then leaving if i get the college place? or will i just go for the job and leave college alone? it's so hard to get a job nowadays..

No it's not. There are plenty of opportunities out there. MORE opportunities will present themselves if you are educated however. Go and temp for a couple of weeks, make a few quid, and then take up your college place and ENJOY!!;)

It's easier to get a job when you have a degree behind you tbh.

Do you want to go to college? What kind of job is this? I wouldn't worry about getting a job if I were you. After 4 years of college, you'll probably want to take it easy! :D

If the job is an apprenticeship or something then maybe that would be cool,if you liked it. However,if it's a job in a bank or an office,I'd go to college instead!

Also, college is such great fun! You have plenty of time to spend your life working.
Spend the next few years having a good time and learning about something interesting!

Plenty of jobs out there if you do not have a qualification and you will be grand if you do not care about money. However, the liklihood of finding a job you actually like and earning decent money then your chances are dramatically improved if you have a qualification.

Also not to mention that good money when you are 17/18 is really nothing comapred to good money when your 23 with a degree behind you.

    You'll love college.

Forget the job. If you don't love college then reapply.

Feck it. I won't bother so. Dont know how my mother will take this lol, shes kinda like "go for the job, then if you dont get college it wont matter", but i'd rather do it the other way.

    Without a doubt..... College.
It is far from difficult to get a job. The quality of job you can get after college is MUCH higher.
Also, The job is shift. The telling point is not that the money is good, but that they hire every few months: To me that indicates a high turnover which is a good pointer to the job being C**p.

I delayed university for a job that allows me to play for pay. But if the job had not been a perfect fit for my career, I would not have delayed my education. Unless this job is a perfect fit for you, you should go to college and increase your chances for a better job in the future.

That's it. Keep the faith! :D

Also,if you don't get into college, just take the job and maybe reapply for a different course next year. It's never too late.

Good luck! Hope you get in! ;)

You seem to have forgotten about one of your original options. Take the job for the rest of the summer and then ditch it for college. Like you said, they are used to high turnover at the place your looking at so it won't be a problem to just up and leave!

You get your results in a few weeks, I am not sure where you live/where you want to go to college, but college generally starts mid-late september, that gives you at least a month and a half of work. Enough time to build up a decent sum of money for the initial few weeks of none-stop partying your going to be having.

That's how I see it anyway, maybe I have missed something but it seems like your now all or nothin, either college or the job, why not have a little of one (the job) and a lot of the other.

Well as someone who left college early for a job, I would say make sure that the course choice you end up taking is something that you are interested in and don't waste your time. There are other options if you wish to take the job, you could work on college from distance learning, lots of options available these days. Good luck. :)

Yeah but it just seems like hassle, I'd be starting and then handing in my notice again in a week or two...

Another point to note is that for a lot of people....college is where they find out what they really want to do....or don't want to do. Too many people go from School to work and then end up staying there because aren't aware they have options. I found the course i did was not for me (Marketing....Before you ask!!) but the experience was just so worth it.

College, College, College. This is a crucial decision for you at this point in your life. Get a degree behind you.

    Good stuff!

I thought of another option btw. If you didn't feel ready for college this year and you did get in then you could always put it on hold for the year and go do the course the year after. They let you do that you know.

I dropped out of college at 20 (too much partying, not enough study :D). Wasn't really bothered as I felt ready to enter the world of work. Boy, did I regret it - by the age of 22 and after lots of crappy office-temping jobs, I had a certificate in word processing. My friends had degrees and some of them had post-grads/masters degrees. Finally, at 23, when the work I was doing was particularly sh*t, I made the decision to go back to college - did a one-year cert, then finished my degree, now have just completed my masters. Best few years of my life. I was a bit older than other people in my class but so what? I act younger than my age anyway!
