love him or hate him gotta respect his results.

After doubling up in the last hand, Phil Hellmuth (2.2 million) has taken a 7-to-1 chip lead over Juha Helppi (300K).

Yeah i backed all the top players to reach the top ten, i used Betfair though, better odds and easier to track, if one of them makes the final table i will be up €300, so i have about 20 of em backed, fingers crossed

He won the $1000 rebuy. Well done to him but time for some of these threads to be where they belong. Postings have been far too lax here lately.

He means that updates and enquiries of a tournament nature are being posted in the main forum when they should be posted in the sub forum which was designed for threads like these. Instead mods such as muso himself have to move them to the appropriate place, which is not really how it should work.

i don't see why they should be moved to the tournaments forum. i thought that was for advertising tournaments and stuff only. this is just talking about hellmuth. he happened to win the 1,0000 rebuy wsop tounement but we're not specifically talking about that - we're talking about the fact that its phil helmuth, his 10th bracelet, etc. i think its a bit stupid and unneccesary to move topics like this - especially into a sub forum that less people read.

i mean, if i post about a play i made in a sng that i want advice on does it go in here? it is a tournament after all... sorry, just a rant. back on topic.

It's a bit confusing alright. There's a thread about Jeff Madsen and how well he is doing in the WSOP in the main forum but a thread about Hellmuth must be moved to the tourney sub-forum?

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that is what is being referred to I am farily sure and I was just answering the question as put.

I thought this rebellion was quelled long ago!.

I, for one, agree with Musician. The Jeff Madsen thread should have been here in the first place anyway. Surely threads that are specifically about a particular tournament players results belong here? I can see how people will wonder where the line is drawn about what should go where, but maybe a bit of common sense might work?

Edit: I posted this when it was still in the tourney section.

Don't want to confuse the poor boardsies. I'll leave the moderating to Luke then while I'm away. To hell with the rules.

10th bracelet!! Jebus we'll never hear the end of it. You have to hand it to him though - he talks the talk AND walks the walk!!

PS. The subject of the thread is Phil Helmuth therefor does not belong in the tourny section IMO.

ULTIMATEBET’S ELITE TEAM UB MEMEBER PHIL HELLMUTH JR.

    CAPTURES HIS TENTH GOLD BRACELET

Las Vegas, NV. July 26, 2006: Four weeks into the World Series of Poker and with the Main Event around the corner, at 1:00 am at the Rio Pavilion in Las Vegas, Phil Hellmuth Jr. re-wrote the World Series of Poker record books one more time winning his tenth gold bracelet in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em Rebuy tournament. Wearing his trademark UltimateBet branded gear, in front of a growing crowd of anxious fans, standing room only, Hellmuth faced off with Juha Helppi to reclaim his place as number one. Crowned the “poker brat,” Hellmuth now joins the ranks of Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, the only other pros to have won ten World Championships of Poker, and the most all-time wins.

From a field of 754 players, Hellmuth went into the final table with a chip lead of 768,000 against Daryn Firicano, Juha Helppi, Rafael Perry, Terris Preston, John Spadavecchia, David Plastik, Elio Cabrera, and Antanas “Tony” Guoga. After a long heads up battle against Helpppi, Hellmuth won $631,863, his share of a $2,340,238 prize pool in the event holding an A of Spades J of Hearts against Helppi’s A of Diamonds 9 of Hearts when the board came up Q of Spades 8 of Spades 2 of Clubs K of Spades 6 of Clubs.

Hellmuth has been a force on the poker scene since 1989 when he became the youngest World Series of Poker champion at the age of 24, taking home his first gold bracelet and an astounding $775,000. His stated career goal is to become the best poker player of all time. Now with ten WSOP victories (two of them in 2003), four Hall of Fame titles, and more than fifty tournament titles, Hellmuth is well on his way to cementing his poker legacy. Winning three WSOP titles and a second place finish in 1993 is considered the best feat in the history of poker. In the World Poker Tour tournaments Hellmuth has amassed top-ten finishes and in 2005, Hellmuth took first place ($500,000) at the Golden Nugget’s NBC National Heads-Up Poker tournament against 64 of the world’s best poker players. He has won dozens of major tournaments internationally, including wins at the World’s Biggest Seven-card Stud Tournament in Vienna at Casinos Austria, the Poker EM “European Champion,” (2000), and Late Night Poker III Champion in Great Britain (2000). Added to his list of titles is also the 1995 Hall of Fame Championship Event.

In addition to today’s triumph, on June 30th Hellmuth reached another key record in WSOP history when he became the first player ever to cash-in 50 times, getting 67th place in a field of 2,776 players at the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event. Hellmuth is now able to claim that he is the first player to ever reach that mark, which again puts him into the annals of World Series history.

Known both for his lightning skill and his sometimes unpredictable theatrics, Hellmuth has been called the “Michael Jordan of poker” and the “John McEnroe of cards.” There is no doubt that UltimateBet knew how to play its cards when they joined forces with this charismatic champion to help build the web’s most authentic poker playing site from the ground up. As a member of the elite Team UB, Hellmuth continues to consult, educate, inform, and promote the sport of poker. UltimateBet joins Hellmuth in celebrating this victory.

To hear Phil’s story go to his BLOG. Phil has never felt better about his game, and winning his record 10th bracelet so close to the Main Event is surely a sign of only better things to come.
