I saw on yesterdfays newspapers thet BT have launched a new home phone and broadband package for €45 per month.

The deal is unlimited local, national, calls to UK and broadband (1Mg).

    Its a very good deal!

Not exactly amazing really. Defo not worthy of an "alert".

Its not cheap! And its nothing special.. it does not even come close to beating smart telecoms deal.
The main problem though is you have to try and become a BT customer... i tried twice and the muppets lost both applications :D
So i will stick with eircom for now. I use BT broadband though. I do not make enough phone calls to justify a package like this.

It's not as good as the Smart deal (if you can get it) but it's the best package around thats available to the masses. The closest Eircom package is €39.99 + €29.99 for BB = €69.98 and that doesn't include UK calls.

as someone else posted it depends on what you want. If you make enough calls to warrant it then its good... remember something.. the BB package on offer is only 1mb. Is €54 for 2mb and €63 for 3mb

I make on average €11 worth of calls every 2 months on eircom so for someone like me its not worth it. Especially since most of these are to the US using telestunt/dialwise (whatever they call themselves these days). So i would still have to pay for these calls even on this package.

So for me and people like me its not a great deal.

I work it out that it costs me €56.50 for what i have a month. This includes BT broadband 2mb and line renal from eircom.. not including the international calls i make using telestunt. So i would save only €2.50 on the full BT offer a month and thats not enough to justify having to deal with them again.

True. I'd be in the same boat as yourself. I make very few landline calls so I wouldn't need it either. But for anyone that does, it's great value. Even the higher speed packages are good value particularly if they're currently with Eircom.

This might be good for us. We currently have BB with esat and our calls and phone line are with UTV (free calls to landlines every evening). We pay €32.50pm for broadband and €25pm for line rental/calls. With this package we would pay €54pm for all of the above plus we would have calls free 24/7 (or are the calls evening only? No montion of it on esats site? Is the 2MB cap the same on total talk as it is to get BB stand alone?

Well if you don't make many calls, then BT has another package which includes 1MB always on BB and line rental for €35 per month. Basically you get the BB for only €10 per month.

Yes it is not as good as the likes of Smart or NTL, but it is much more widely available and significantly cheaper then Eircom.

Anybody considering this package might want to have a look in the broadband section of boards and read peoples experiences with BT.

    Comp / nets/comms /broadband.

don't ever join a contract with bt!!

they will charge you what ever they want, and its nearly impossibal to stop them

loads of people have had problems with them

i singed up on a deal it was €25 for first 4 months

got a bill for 120 after 2 months, then a bill for 120 2 months later,

it was now supposed to cost €45 a month

i got billed for 180 2 months later

luckily i was in a 6 month contract, so i cencelled

i got billed for 180 again, 2 months after i cancelled

lots of phone calls and emails got some of the money back, although i never saw it in my bank account, i think my cancelled bt account is in credit, by about half of what the over charged

Did you contact Comreg? I've heard loads of horror stories but surely if you contact comreg they would have to refund you.
