I orderd an energy monitor last week after reading about it on overclockers web site. Here is what i ordered http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38343&TabID=1&source=1&doy=26m7

    What it does is..

    • Measures voltage (V), amps (A), watts (W), volt-amps(VA), hertz (Hz) and power factor (PF)
    • Great for seeing how much power your appliances are using!
    • Large clear LCD display
    • Reverse socket prevents cables getting trapped
    • Maximum current 15A
    • Maximum power 3750VA

So since i got it i have been running around the house checking out what ever thing uses on stand by and when turned on. But what i wanted to use it most on was my computer and c how much power does my 2Rigs draw down.

On Rig2 which is my gaming machine when in windows and doing noting else it draws down 115Watt. While playing games and cpu and video card at full load my Watt usage is from 175 to 190. My machine is all over clocked my 3700+ chip is running at 2600mhz and video card clocked as far as it will let me. So all in all i dont think this machine uses much power. And to think lots of people go out and buy top of the range PSU "Like mine" and maybe they dont need them.

For Rig1 it was using 165watt while in windows and have not loaded up foulding so dont know whats its max draw down is at the moment.

My monitor uses 100watts give or take one or 2watts.

Well off to try the microwave and kettle now!
