DVD playback software?

    A friend of mine is currently building his own pc out of spare parts he salvaged and got from a PC repair man. He has a DVD drive but no software to play back Movie DVD's on it.

    I tried my own Dell PowerDVD which came with my own but that is designed for Dell Computers only. (His not being a Dell). He asked me to try and find a freeware DVD playback software, I checked the Essential freeware list but there doesn’t seem to be one listed.

    Does anybody know of a freeware DVD playback software? He didn't get any CD's with it only the Hardware.

    Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
