think i have a worm

think i have a worm, checking my uploads using DU meter, it seems like uploading full speed in the background. Also, checking my router logs, it seems like SMTP traffic. What I don't get is in safe mode or otherwise, my antivirus (AVG) doesnt detect anything. odd.

Any ideas?

Yes it looks like that particular file is registered as a trojan, reboot then into safe mode and delete.

Deleted a load of services i didnt need, same problem... really wierd. a bit stumped.

Have you deleted the file (in safe mode)? Its possible that AVG might not be able to pick up this trojan. You have to delete the registry key as well. Backup your files before you do so.

Instructions are below:

Click Start->Run and type regedit in the box.

-Navigate to the subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

- In the right pane, set the value:"Shell" = "Explorer.exe"

-Navigate to the subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

-In the right pane, delete the value:
"Shell" = ""C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm[random 5 digit number].exe""

turned out to be more serious than i thought, and i just saw it as an opportunity for a fresh install of XP. It was getting pretty clogged anyway!
