An english version should be out soon, but it appears to be the **** for want of a better word. Finally I can watch a movie or play a game on my way home on the train and in style too!

Pictures speak a thousand words so..

    g6l03vt8.th.jpgg6l05nt6.th.jpg

And yes that is it sitting flush with the DSL

    Feature List
    Review

The only drawback appears to be the fact that the cart is one piece and you cannot switch memory cards, but at four gigs I would see little need.

    Price: €125

    correct

That looks bloody sweet! When it does come out where do you think I could get one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

Another bite out of the PSP... just makes me want one even more.

Reminds me of that flash attachment for the GBA-SP, the one where you could put a vast array of games on a card and play them through your SP, no more buying games was about to become a reality.

    from the review:

is to comment on the size of the cart. 4Gb (gigabits) which equates to 512MB (megabytes).

ive just bought a supercard mini sd meself, only sticks out a bit and i can deal with that for the price :) €70 for card and pass key

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

    what size is that?

Ps I excitement stems from the fact that they realise people want flush carts.

    seller site -- http://www.g6flash.com/global_sell_net.htm

English version is supposed to be out in august

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,470 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

    thats no size lol

    i bought a 1 gigabyte mini sd for €30,

however i think with that g6 u need a passkey anyway, bringing another 25-30 to the cost

so effectivelt you are paying about 55 more for half the space and sitting flush :)

that said id take one but i couldnt justify the extra cash

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

Isnt there a micro sd version too? Yes you do need a passkey but such is life. Anyway I would like to think this is not the end, next we should see hopefully greater and greater capcities.

I know one thing for sure we wont see any 512mb carts that arent flush anymore.

Yes you will need to play with it a bit but it is possible.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

ah - define what you mean by "play with it a bit".

Why is there always a catch - you almost need a degree in computer science to get this **** to work :)

Nice find, does it affect battery length ?

    Anyone ordered it yet ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

Well the MAx media player, is essentailly a device that lets you boot up from the GBA slot with your SD card. On that you require software, first you need an operating system, Moonshell is quite popluar.

This allows you to access media on the SD card, native support for mp3 and jpegs is available. For movies you need to covert them into .gba format on your PC before you can play them.

All this info is out there on the net, but I dare not go looking as it has info on how to play roms too.

The homebrew sceen is another interesting aspect of this lark, it allows you to use other peoples programs on your DS. DSOrganiser is the first that pops into my head, but there are a good few useful and not so useful ones out there.

Im gonna wait abit before I get one, first its not out in english just yet, and secondly they always find typos with the first version.

Plus I would like to see other peoples reviews, so Ill let the idiots on the other forums get one first.

TBA it has been released in an english version!!!

this is THE BEST ds mod solution at the moment bar none
a friend has just got one for his ds
and im about to order one too

    advantages :
obviously flush , supercard mini, mini m3 not so
(lite versions coming but will be more expensive and requiring
    expensive micro sd cards!!)

compatibility : g6 lite is the best ,then m3
supercard is sh** for gba games compat.

game saving system: the best full stop

speed: direct memory , faster, no slowdown , on games like
metroid prime etc which there is slowdown on using m3 and supercard

menus: so simple and the menus look great with the game pics

disadvantage : capacity ?? of 512 megabytes, enough for 16 new mario bros games but for multimedia esp video gonna run into probs ....thats it really

    cost?? not really a disadvantage
a supercard lite +micro sd card +usb card reader, +passme would prob work out dearer

i can see the g6lite and passcard for 92 euro delivered
    anyone see it cheaper anywhere?????

By the way folks - you don't need a passkey.

A little thing called flashme will do the trick nicely.

Also it is worth noting that flash cards eat the battery life compared to normal games. Can be a bit of a drawback.

Can anyone give me details by PM about these types of things please??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭BOHSBOHS

reactor its the passkey would eats up the batt life in this case (g6 lite )
or because ur running both slots although older carts i wud agree wit ya ,
, running on a flashme'd ds with just the g6 lite , batt life is almost the same as normal ds games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

BOHSBOHS - all flash carts use more battery. I had a supercard with flashme (no passcard) - battery life is about half normal. I have heard the G6 Lite is better on battery life, but I'd have to give it a real-life test to be sure.

Which site did you order from?

Those Uk sites either are more expensive or don't have the product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭BOHSBOHS

did u flash it yourself REACTOR or do u know a ds flasher! the mod forum looks to be all psp heads and xbox modders so this forum is prob best place to ask....id probably ruin my ds doing it myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

flashed it myself - very easy to do.

    google is your friend.

Hey, just bought a ds lite today and was wondering what is the cheapest FLUSH cart option I can get for it?

Must be at least 512MB, and fit flush with the ds lite.

I looked around on a few of the uk based sites, but all the different devices, and different functions were confusing, also didn't have much info if the device would fit the ds lite without sticking out.

Mainly wanna use it for watching divx, and maybe listening to a few mp3's.

What devices do you guys use? and are they good? What sites would you advise me to use?

    Cheers.

Well, you could do worse than point your Googleator to a site called hopebuy, they will cater for all your needs with the genuine articles (lots of fakes about, beware), they ship quick with VAT/taxes unlikely and you can Paypal ;) ... and they're likely to be much cheaper than European sites / Lik Sang.

I've used them twice and would recommend them... obviously! Just got myself a SuperKey, Supercard miniSD (flush with old DS, just wish they'd use something else than garish purple :( ), Sandisk 512MB miniSD with SD adapter and USB2.0 SD card reader/writer for €80 or so delivered. Arrived in 5 days. Now, to code that bloody Freecell DS port for the Mrs :D

With regard to DiVX (or any other encoding format), you'll still need to post-process your movie file into the GBA movie format anyway.

Saying all that, if you're not in a rush (as in - can wait a few weeks at most), I'd hang on for the first SD-based solutions to come out, they're just around the corner (release expected mid-Sept). That's a DS cart-sized adapter for miniSD or microSD cards, and does completely away with using the GBA cart port.

    My €0,02 :)

I wouldn't touch anything less than 8Gbit (1GByte), 512 megs is really small for movies etc.

A 350mb ep of Prison Break comes down to 100mb for playing with Moonshell

Fair enough (Erm... that's a 512 MBytes miniSD, not 512 Mbits. Half a GigaByte, if you prefer), but still, more than enough for about every single homebrew project released to date, a couple of CDs ripped to 192kbps mp3s and one or two images of DS games I own - with room to spare. Or a 2 hour movie at a sub-320 pix/sub-64 kbps re-encoded resolution (and tbh, what with DS screen size, battery life with flash cards and what not, no point having any better, really  ).

You "get sent" 350mb prison break episodes??

rvmb dude, 150Mb and the same quality. ;)

It looks like i'm going with the newer DS-Xtreme 4Gbit card. No messin around with passcards and its a fully functional stand-alone DS cart rather than GBA.

    www.ds-xtreme.com

    http://www.divineo.co.uk/cgi-bin/div-uk/ds-extreme.html

Tis pricey though but the features are all drag and drop and plug and play and i'm a man of leisure and can't be arsed tinkering.

    Anyone bought/used one?

That looks good, it works with memory slots in the GBA slot too (apparently) for those of a capacity minded nature

Ooh happy days - my only concern was the 512meg capacity. If you could couple this with a 4GByte GBA card you'd be laughing.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

Having done some further research into the little amount of info available the DS-Xtreme doesn't come with GBA functionality - only DS. But apparently works as a passkey for any GBA slot Media player as tba said.

I'm all confused as to what to go for again.

    I don't 'get sent', I rip from my Dvd's.

I do however 'get sent' h264 eps :)
