    Folks,

This is the story, applied for a job (Operations Co-Ordinator & Business Analyst, Job Spec attached). Got a call a few hrs ago about it and I was asked about my salary expectations. TBH i havent a clue what "my expectations" should be so I said 27-29k. Can anyone tell me is that too low? Please also bear in mind that I have a masters in strategic mgt and a degree in IT & part Business. I would have quite a bit of working experience, gained during college (Government Admin, Market research, IT support and testing) but not in the area that the job is in. However, a number of subjects in my masters & degree would link into elements of the job spec. As well as that my dissertation is in one of the areas (business process reengineering / improvement) that the job is based around. I still think its a job I could perform well enough with a bit of training and the like. Tell me what you think

    Cheers

IMHO; Definitetly too low. Average industrial wage is now 30+. However, get in the door, impress and then get the big bucks

Although your not really helping your chances of getting it by advertising here. Wouldnt know what type of scoundrels lurk in these boards willing to undercut you!

Well TBH you couldnt go much lower and now that I think of it the job is essentially two jobs (but equally seperate dep on the company you were in) rolled into one and each of them would pay 26k a piece!!

Firstly, I think you've scored a few own goals, talking openly here about your specifics isn't smart, but naming the propsective employer is DUMB! Sorry, you've no excuses. I mean Jesus you've got a masters and yet demonstrate little cop on and even less strategic thinking!!

Sure do your own research but I think you need to be more discreet. I'm a bit surprised, given you have some work experience and a masters behind you that you cannot approach this in a better way. No excuses for not having a clue, I mean you haven't demonstrated any clued in research abilities and even less startegic thinking.

Sorry for being so negative, but you should open your books and revise process improvement. Good luck with the application and if you get €30k grab it, because the experience will prove much more valuable.

    Cheers

Are you drunk? :D TBH does ne1 really know the ins and outs of a job? No, as Ive said I could prob do it, but just havent been faced the "name ur price" suitation before. This job could come under numerous headings all with different salary expectations...

Id appreciate if u could remove the company from ur msg, prob wasnt a good move on my part. Thanks

aiming too low. Reading the job spec I think you should be looking at 30+ really 35+ but I think the employeer is looking to hire on the cheap for what on paper is a key link in their chain

I don't like that line about MS Access. Are they running enterprise reports out of MS Access?

Who asked you for your salary expectations? Agency/employer?
If you are going through an agency for this role they should be in a position to advise you as to whether your expectation was in line with what the employer would be offering.

If you are applying directly to the employer you've certainly pitched too low. :(

its your first job out of college, so its all about getting that magic 2 years work experience, so you can apply for jobs with decent money later :D

..in that regard, it looks like a good job to get some experience of working in the real world with teams of people to deadlines etc etc *yawn*

with pretty much only summer jobs on your CV (is that right) you definitely haven't pitched too high.

Your degree, masters, etc dont really mean too much other than your not afraid of hard work in this case (not being negative just realistic)..........
