Right, so about 1/2 a can of bavaria got spilt on my laptop two days ago. I didn't find that out until after I tried to turn it on. I've been told that the damage is probably already done and I should just bin it. But I've also been told that if I soak all the parts in 100% alcohol over night then wash them down with 100% alcohol and then let them dry out it might be ok. Is that bull**** or should I try the alcohol thing? If i should try it then where do I get 100% alcohol?

    Thanks,
    Fergal.

I fear the damaged maybe done already, its had plenty of time for the beer to dry and when it does it goes to a sticky residue which Isn't good news. You could try and open up the laptop (which can be an ordeal) and see what parts of the circuit board are wet/sticky and use some pcb/circuit board cleaner from maplin or indeed 100% alcohol. Is there any sign of life when you tried to turn the machine on?

I agree, i'd reckon the damage is already done, when the beer dries it turns all sticky like and tends to kinda make things break :(

Go with the dismantling I reckon. Seeing as you would be just dumping it you've nothing to lose. If the bits look ok but no signs of life, i'd say your pretty screwed, but if there is blatant dried beer on some of the bits, wash it off and see what comes of it....

    Basicallly what majiktripp said .....

( or as an alternative if its not to old you could return it to the shop and say it wont turn on and chance your arm :P )

Any chance you have any coverage for it? :( Otherwise you might be able to salvage it but removing the keys, drying it off best you can and replacing them with some parts available on eBay or elsewhere on the interweb.

open the laptop up. Get some 100% alcohol. a small brush and a hot air gun. Clean the parts where the alcool has spilt with the brush and alcohol. then heat the areas with the hot air gun to melt the solder.
