If you don't train with live blades is this an alternative??

    http://www.shocknife.com/info.html

I know of one person that has used it in his class and the reviews have been great.

Apparently it will 'zapp' through cloths etc.

Saw the concept and thought... "not a bad idea that."

Then saw the price and thought... "here we go...."

Then saw "you must do our course to be allowed to use our knife" and thought.... "This is American. Isn't it?"

Smith's toy shop sell a big box of big sticks of chalk.

    Karl Tanswell uses them.

    Peace

Really good idea, but the price is a bit much, like FiannaGym.com said use chalk or a permanent marker, even if your partner doesn't acknowledge the shot it's hard to argue with a big black line representing a slash to his carotid artery.

judging by their willingness to ship more or less anywhere it looks like a non enforced condition...

    I'd say you're right.

Definitely a great way to introduce the fear/pain thing without causing harm.

As I understand it they have been used for quiet a while but only recently (relative) became avail. to the public... possibly the price would put the random 'prankster/bad boy' of the purchase??

All joking aside, chalk and marker are cool to use, but does your partner react as if he has been cut, is there a reaction...?? I know very little about knife work so any experts out there.

    Outcome,
1 Walk away from training with many red stripes on your shirt, indicating where you have been cut, but you have not reacted to it and ploughed away assuming you have full use of your defences?

2 Get zapped and react to it, acknowledging that it has happend and make adjustments in your game, or do you react as if you've been zapped and not knifed?

    Any takers?

Depends what your training, if it's just to instill correct responses and techniques tnen no there is no need to stop if you have a good training partner he will tell you if you are not hitting the right target. When you start sparring with padded weapons then you should stop and recognise any shot that would disable you in any way. If your opponent won't acknowledge the shots then get rid if the protective gear and use an aluminium trainier, won't kill him but they hurt! ;)

Here is a clip from the Atienza Kali site, it's been posted before but it shows how your training partner should react to lethal and non lethal strikes. The first segment the defender/reciever does not hit the correct targets and his attackers/feeders keep coming, in the later part of the clip the defender/reciever knows which are the lethal targets and hits them stopping his attackers almost instantly which is what would happen if you hit the correct targets. It's done slower than the first so they could demonstrate the technique and show the targeting easier.

Use a wooden or Ally trainer, they bloody hurt cause it's like taking a hit from a Kubotan or Koppo stick!

Also, I've never done this but some people tape fairly coarse sandpaper to the trainers  It'll take a little skin and you surely know you've been tagged.

However as the MMA lads point out, train smarter not rougher! If you've been "killed" just admit it. That way your partner won't have to hit you harder next time to make you own up to getting hit! Simple no?
It's just another drill after all, no shame in getting tagged, but if your not learning, and just bulling on through lethal hits what use is the drill at all?

I remember playing cowboys and indians/ cops and robbers and kids never would accept they were killed. You shoot them from point blank range with your imaginery revolver / bow and they be like "you missed". I hated that game. I much prefered wrestling cos you'd know when you got them then.

So you never flipped your toy revolver and pistol whipped them?

    Maybe that was Justus? :D
