Buying an Ipod on Ebay

    Hi folks,
I'm in the market for a new 30gb Ipod. I had a good look on Ebay and there seems to be a big selection. I'm a bit wary of some of these dodgy sellers on ebay so I'm only looking at sellers using paypal. Can anyone recommend a good seller? Will I be okay if I buy from a power seller?

    Cheers!

    Donie

Hey, i use ebay a lot, in my experiences of buying anything from tshirts to mobiles etc, for buying expensive items i usually go with somebody who has a lot of feedback, always read through it and you should be ok, even if it does cost that little bit more, better safe than sorry,i'd go for postal insurance to on expensive items, i always look at where there from too, don't really trust the asian countries to be honest as they counterfit bloody everything.

I would usally look in the buy and sell to and try pick something up and in the case of an expensive item, insist on going to the sellers address to do the dealings etc

I'm not sure its worth buying one on Ebay.

If you buy it on ebay you're going to have to pay import duty (probably).
You will have to pay shipping (isn't it free on the apple site?)
Apple do an engraving (free last time I checked- over a year ago).

As far as I can see alot of them are dodgy with low feedback.

Could you post a link to the seller you're interested in?

Check how long the seller has been on eBay, check their feedback (and the items they sell, make sure they aren't selling 1 cent items to their friends).
Make sure to use Paypal and nothing else and as the previous poster said if buying from abroad, you might get hit with customs when it arrives in Ireland.

Don't forget you may have to buy an voltage adaptor if there's a power supply, and you buy from the US.
    They can be pricy.

yeah, i looked long and hard before buying my 30gb Ipod - they were so cheap from the stores in the US and I was going to have my aunt who lives there send it over, would have saved me nearly 100 euro. However, I read a lot about how customs are very keen to catch Ipod sent from overseas, so the possibility of having to pay customs and VAT was pretty high. And if you pay customs and VAT, it nearly costs the same as buying one here from Apple, so that is what I did in the end, spent about 30 euro more here, but got it quickly and got it with an engraving.

It's just my opinion, but I don't trust Ebay for big things like Ipods and stuff - just because as someone was pointing out... how and where do they get the stuff to sell so cheap? It's one thing if you are looking for used stuff, or stuff you can't get in Ireland. But if I am going to spend a couple of hundred euro, I would prefer to have it from a reputable seller.

Emm, its an iPod, designed to be used around the world. The power supply supports all international voltages. You just need a plug adaptor that physically allows it to plug into the socket.

I understand this mentality. Ebay dont sell items, they sell auctions and auction tools. Evaluate the seller and purchase with confidence accordingly. Id hardly call an iPod a big thing!
how and where do they get the stuff to sell so cheap?

The genuine items dont go cheap very often. Particularly Apple equipment as the margin is pathetic on it. Did you look at the prices for the sold items, rather than running auctions? In many cases where items are sold at below the average price, the seller make money on the shipping. Perceived value really.

Anyway, ebay is fine. Just take you time evaluating sellers and dont get cought in bidding wars. Ive bought about 15K's worth of stuff from ebay over the years with no issues. /touches wood
