VLC\BF2 hangs on a sound then moves on

Okey dokey went from an MSI NF4 sli to an ASUS crossfire. reloaded XP and installed the usual. Played an AVI on VLC player and saw that it kept stopping on a sound and picture and then move on only to stop a few seconds. My cpu temp, cpu usage are normal. Anyway i started using Windows media player(loaded up some codecs) and have had no problem whatsoever with WMP9. so the other night decided to load up BF2 and it started doing the same, stopping on a sound, stopping the pic and moving. The problem occured a hell of a lot quicker on BF2 than on VLC. I played just music through vlc and had the same problem, it kept stopping.

I was pretty sure it was the sound and i have an audigy 2, so knowing creative labs dodgy SW rep, i installed the drivers, found the latest and downloaded them. according to the release notes the driver was to fix a known issue with hanging on Dualcore and hyper threading systems(i've an X2 processor). thought wooh-oo loaded the drivers and same again. i uninstalled the drivers, and used the realtek on-board sound(yes i switched it off in setups when i originally out in the audigy). same friggin problem. Being desperate and seeing as i had a spare 7900GT, i swapped out my x1900XTX and got the same crap with the GT.

Seriously i'm stumped, i'm thinking Codecs, seeing WMP9 uses diferent codecs to VLC. I've put on the latest Divx codecs and still the same. any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Problem is more than likley ouyr Nforce boards drivers, heres what i did.

    Reinstall Windows :(
DONT use the nforce disc, but manually install each device from device manager using drivers from its site or windows update ones or for 1 or 2 of the devices browse to the folder on the cd and install only the driver no other Nforce crap.

The Nforce utilies like the firewall and other ****e avoid like the plague.

That should sort it, and take an image of your HD when done to save time next time :D

To my total shock, the bios upgrade has fixed the issue. The fact that media player was fine threw me off. was'nt nfore it was a crossfire so had the ati chipset. Must query the asus boards on this one.
