Tribeca Handconverter (Paddy Power, VC, Doyles...)

I've written a hand converter for the tribeca network (Paddy, VC, Doyles room etc.). It converts a hand from your hand history into a readable format or into the 2+2 format.

It's a standalone program - free of course - and requires the java runtime which can be downloaded here

    Download:
    http://home.arcor.de/tojx/pokertools_install.exe

Suggestions, comments and bug reports are welcome!

    Example output:
    Holdem Limit - $0.04 BB

    Button ($1.41)
    SB ($1.96)
    BB ($0.48)
    UTG ($0.88) [Hero]
    CO ($3.51)

Hero is UTG with Jc, 9c
    Preflop: (5 players, $0.06)
Hero calls $0.02 and raises $0.02, CO calls $0.04, Button calls $0.04, SB folds, BB calls $0.02

    Flop: 8h, 7c, 5s (4 players, $0.2)
BB bets $0.02, Hero calls $0.02, CO calls $0.02, Button calls $0.02

    Turn: Td (4 players, $0.28)
BB bets $0.04, Hero calls $0.04 and raises $0.04, CO folds, Button calls $0.08, BB calls $0.04

    River: Kd (3 players, $0.52)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.04, Button folds, BB calls $0.04

    Results: Hero has Jc, 9c
Hero wins $0.55 with Straight JT987

this sounds great. My one concern is that your not a regular poster here and I'd be a bit concerned installing something on my computer from an unknown source. Do you know any regular poster here that confirm you're genuine ? Or has someone already installed it and can verify it's ok ?

I hope I'm not causing offence, but in this day and age you have to be careful.

I've downloaded the linked file and scanned with AVG and it's clean. Not installing the .exe though since I don't play on Tribeca!

Can you answer dingle's questions Tomotronic? Any screenshots of the converter in action?

I'm not a regular here but reading this forum every now and then. I'm more active in the 2+2 forums

Of course there's no spyware or viruses in the program (as lafortezza confirmed). I hope that you have an antivirus program installed anyway - these days you can't do without them ;)

    converter_screen.jpg

edit: to answer your question: no, I don't know anybody on this forum. The reason why this is a standalone program is that I'm currently working on a poker stats analyser that parses your Tribeca hand history files and provides statistics and more. The hand converter was the result of a prototype for the hand parsing part and since there wasn't a hand converter for tribeca tables anyway I released it as a separate, free application.

Thanks Lafortezza and Tomotronic for the replies. again I wasn't trying to cause offence, just being careful.

Anyway, I installed it and it works fine. this is quite useful as i find the Tribeca hand histories hard to read. I was about to comment that having an option to include peoples names would be nice until I discovered you had that covered in the Prefences.

All in all a useful tool for users of tribeca, if I find any bugs or if I come up with any other suggestions I'll post them here.

Yes, tournament stats are planned as well however it might not be available in the first version, I'll send you a pm once there's something to test, thanks for your offer :)

I just tried to convert more than one hand at a time and received an error message.

If you can only convert one hand at a time then I suggest converting multiple hands at once could be a useful feature.

For example if you wanted to review all the hands in a SnG which you played, if they could all be converted at once it'd be much easier to review

The main worry would be that it would be a trojan looking for passwords to our opker accounts - something AVG and any other virus scanner wouldn't pick up on (afaik). Again, no offence Tomotronic, but you've got to be careful:)

    Some suggestions:
Could you have the little pictures instead of h s c d, spade.gifheart.gif?
I presume you can just link to the 2+2 images instead of hosting yourself.
You may have to have different export options to create code for different bulliten board types...

Also - a big job, but a feature I've suggested they add to Poker Tracker and think would be very useful. It would be great if a program created a graphical replay of a hand from the HH. Perhaps an animated gif which can be uploaded. Any chance? :D

Lastly, any chance of making a web version so a .exe dosn't have to be downloaded and installed?

    Good work

This is planned for the main tool, too, however I might add this functionality to the hand converter as well. Support for different forums is planned, too.

I think poker tracker uses a 3rd party program for this already, to replay archived hands. Personally I don't see much value in something like this because the hand summary with small graphical symbols for the suits should suffice so I've put this on a rather low priority - if however many user request it I will consider this for a later release.
Lastly, any chance of making a web version so a .exe dosn't have to be downloaded and installed?
I don't have access to a provider who hosts java applications so I probably won't implement anything in this direction. If however somebody wants to do this I would be willing to share the source code. Because it's all written in java an integration with servlets should be easy enough.
    Good work
    Appreciated :) Thanks!

This is already a feature in PokerTracker. You click "Playback This Hand" in the hand history window

Sorry, I'm very unclear. I ment something that can be used to share then across the net. So instead of posting text HHs we can post graphical replays.

    Tomotronic, did the project die?

Wow i never saw this thread. Seems like a great little feature. Would be good if it worked for all the major poker sites.

Thats savage. And if it worked for Tribeca it would savager.

Yeah was part of the plan originally. Must get back to it. By the way when I say ropey I mean ropey. If you try and add a hand it will probably explode :) or else just take 5 minutes to add it.

I know poker office have a replay feature similar to musicians site but its built into the application. Do any of the major sites have a website similar to musicians site where you can post a link to watch the hand??

Just want to run this by a few of ye. If there was website similar to the musicians above that worked well and also had a basic chat feature built in where you could post a comment about the hand on the site would you use it or would it just be a novelty for a while and then become extinct. I would make it compatible with one of the big sites to start and if successful would increase it to include all the other major networks. Site would be free to use and i would cover hosting and other fees by advertising etc

Dont want to waste a couple of weeks working on this if the hand converter thing is over done to death so would like opinions before i start assumming Musician isnt already bringing this project back out of the closet:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,364 ✭✭✭Mr. Flibble

What you are suggesting is pretty much starting a whole new forum which has a HH feature. Poker forums have certainly been done to death. You may be better off creating something which you can submit your hand to which will then create a playback applet or whatever which can be Incorporated in the replies of all the big forums - 2+2, FullTilt etc. So people could continue to use the forum that they are already on. And you could incorporate ads in the playback thingy.

How one would incorporate a playback thing to a forum I don't know (unless you create an animated gif). You may have to get each forum to modify its code to allow you to link to the applet.

I should point out that this thread has prompted me to start working on a new version of mine to cater for Stars and Tribecca. I had done alot of work on this so I've decided to get back to it.

Thats fine Musician, no point 2 of these trying to compete but if something dosent come of it let me know and id be happy to take over, just taught it was too good of an idea to leave half done and nice to see your taking it up again. If i can make a suggestion i think if you are going the way of a website and not something like Mr.Flibble suggested where an applett or similar can be posted then i think adding a chat feature where someone can post comments would be great imo.

I dont mean go the whole forum route just a simple script that allows the user to make a comment and they could be displayed in a scrollable window style so readers could see the comments and the hand simulator at the same time.

It shouldnt be competing with other forums but what id imagine would happen would someone would post the link to the hand simulation in a thread in boards.ie or 2+2 and then people would make the comments on your site about the hand. This would mean steady traffic on your site.

Anyway good luck with it and keep us updated on the progress.

Yeah any good ideas keep them coming and I'll give credit. I was thinking of allowing comments on every action (street) and then only displaying the relevent comments as you hit each street. This means I need a step option along with watching the whole hand so you can step through the hand etc.
I don't want to stop your efforts I just had this planned and never got back to it. I have alot of work done on parsers for both sites and alot of the javascript done to for the animation so I have alot to work from.
Maybe I should start a seperate thread for suggestions and ideas and build this as a kind of community effort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭dvdfan

Yeah good idea with pausing it at different stages in the hand. I also taught too about adding an option when you submit a hand, that the database will take the names of the players and offer you an option to comment on 1 or more players. This is an important piece of information and although it could just as easily be added in the hand description it would be handy if it could be placed beside the players name instead of the description.

But maybe it would just be better to get it up and running with basic features and then look into improving it.

Again i think it would be a great idea and could become a central and popular website for people looking to learn and improve their game and it should market itself very easily a quick post on 2+2 and boards and similar forums and it would become very popular.

I'd love to help out on this muso, I was thinking of building an app similar to yours but on a bigger scale. It would host entire MTT tournaments. It would play back the entire tournament similar to something on TV! You get to see every hand the person played. It could be a really great tutorial for people and very interesting if we could get some MTT hand histories from any large MTT wins. We could have a previous/next for the hands, with any large hands highlighted. Each MTT would be tracked by their tournament ID, and if another player from that same tournament uploads a hand history you get to view the game from 2 perspectives... and if the two players happen to be at the same table you get to see two hands. I guess the data could be parsed from text/HH into a database, and then fed into your javascript gui via ado or some sort of xml feed... Actually, I like the idea of XML. Each MTT would need about 500KB xml file. Could be split into 10 xml files so parsing doesn't take too long for the client.. The data would grow quite fast, but data is cheap to store on the internet nowadays and I think this would be a very interesting tool to have. I do most of my work in Java/PHP or regular old VB/ASP, so won't be much help with .NET! I did a lot of work parsing tribeca hand histories a while back so I'll revisit that code and see if we can use anything...

Any progress on this muso, when can we expect to see a beta version?
