Basic Reformatting Question

Hi, I need to reformat my hard drive and I've got a fairly basic question about this.

I know that reformatting will wipe everything on the hard drive and require a re-install of windows and my video / sound drivers etc. But does it go beyond this?

My rig was a DIY job which a friend more computer literate than I helped out with, and when it was first set up there was an awful lot of messing around in the BIOS to get everything working properly.

If I reformat will all that be scrubbed too, or will those kinds of BIOS-level settings not be affected?

Formating will not affect bios. BIOS settings are not stored on the HD, they're saved on a chip on motherboard.
