I'm getting a message that says theres a wireless network in range of my laptop. I heard of somebody using this without paying before but is it legal? Could i get caught if I connected?

You obviously know the answer to the first question or you wouldn't be asking the second. Go away.

You "could" get caught, you "could" go to jail (if you look up some nasty porn) but you probably wont. If its a neighbours home wifi I would not connect as it could possibly contain some of there files if they have a network up and going etc (thats assuming they have no security set up on it). You can try to connect to the wireless network your picking up but more and more people have the security option enabled now so I'd be suprised if you could connect properly and surf freely.

This time of course is the 2 seconds of his life that it takes for it to either connect or ask for a key?
And anyway if its secure it will show up with a symbol of a lock.

OP there is no harm in trying. it will work or it will not.

Thanks. I probably won't bothar as I'm not 100% sure whats the story. I don't think it'll do anybody any harm in money terms but I'm not 100% sure.

Careful there now newbie, don't dis Karoma.

98% of wireless networks have security features that will prevent you from connecting. Give it a go, you have nothing to lose.
