Hello and apologies in advance if It's a thick question, but I know next to nothing about this stuff.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to access my external HD without having it connected to my laptop via a USB cable? The router is a Netgear WGR614.

Thanks for any help in advance.

And what's the hard drive? Is it a USB hard drive?

Have a look at this thread.

Hi Foxwood, thanks for the reply.

Yes it's a USB (firewire too, but I don't know what that means!):

Basically, I'd like to be able to stick it behind the telly without having cables running the length of the room.

The Linksys NSLU2 mentioned in the other thread allows you to connect USB drives to an ethernet network. Plug the NSLU2 in next to your WGR614 and plug the USB hard drive into the NSLU2 and you can access the USB hard drive from any computer attached to the network, wired or wireless (though a wireless connection will probably be noticably slower than a direct USB2 connection).
