From googling its not a HDTV (960 x 540) again most sites false advertising by saying its a HD ready TV, it's infact HD compatable.

    Contrast is 800:1
    and response time is 12ms.

Tbh for that price its not worth it. If your buying an LCD now, I'd rather have it as a HDTV.

i thought 960x540 was pal hd?
    960x 2 = 1920 540 x 2 = 1080 interlaced.
or am i missing the point here?

It's "HD Ready" according to the EICTA.
    4. Requirements for the logo “HD ready”

The EICTA "HD ready" Minimum Requirements for display devices are
neutral towards the technology used (plasma, LCD, DLP, DLA, LCoS,
CRT, ...) as well as the implementation thereof (flat panel, rear projection,
    front projection, direct view, ...).

A display device has to cover the following requirements to be awarded the logo “HD ready”:

    1. Display, display engine
    · The minimum native resolution of the display or display engine is 720
physical lines in wide aspect ratio.

    2. Video Interfaces
    · The display device accepts HD input via:
o Analogue YPbPr1, and DVI or HDMI

HD capable inputs accept the following HD video formats:
    1280x720 @ 50 and 60Hz progressive (“720p”), and
    1920x1080 @ 50 and 60Hz interlaced (“1080i”)

The DVI or HDMI input supports content protection (HDCP)
Tbh for that price its not worth it. If your buying an LCD now, I'd rather have it as a HDTV.

    I'd agree with that.

    The tv has 540 lines.

The site mentioned above doesnt state it's a HD Ready panel, but other sites do.
I very much doubt that the panel actually has a HD ready logo on it.

Depends on your interpetation I guess. Mine is 720 lines "in the wide aspect ratio" that set has 960. Another interpretation is that the "display engine" manages to process the HD signal. If a set has a HDMI connection then it must process the HD element, how it represents it on a screen is another matter. I've seen Toshiba Plasma screens in Dixons with the HD Ready Logo on the set while its resolution was 854 x 480 but it had a HDMI input !?

That being said the manual for the TV makes no claim for HD Ready anywhere so I guess it's not.

Hhmm, its got 540 in wide aspect ratio. Anyhow that is the Sharp PPP series, Pal Perfect Picture and is a top of the range NON HD Ready LCD. A really good set if you want something a bit lower budget that's not HD Ready. This set should broadcast normal TV better than a HD set in theory. But anyhow, interpretation aside, this is what's called HD Compatible mate ;)
