Hi all, I have a bit of spare time on my hands now, as I have just finished six months intense training for a specific event. So I think its time to try something new. From my list of things to try, I'm thinking of trying some fencing, I remember a while back some peple here talking out it, so I was wondering if any has any club recommendations, or any thoughts on the benefits of fencing in relation to sd conditioning. Cheers.

Hey Odysseus, what not try FMA if you were interested in fencing, as it can be applied in a more practical way to Self Protection/Defence. Most FMA systems would cover blade, stick, knife etc as well as empty hands. Not sure where you are in the country but if you post (or PM) where you are we can tell you where the nearest club is.

Escrima's stick fighting side is cool from the bit I did. Great craic.

On fencing, I remember something about DCU having a club before. I don't know if its still there though. UCD have one too I think

Cheers for the advice about FMA lads, its something I would like to try, but for some unknow reason, I like to have a go at the eppe and foil stuff. I'm not based in Dublin, but spend half my week down there, so if anyone knows anywhere, cheers.

what event were you preparing for ulysesses.

you may be able to join the gym in trinity and have access to their fencing club but it can be quite expensive.

Cheers mate, but I think I check out the club in Condalkin, the nights suit me. It was a non ma event, but on second thoughts, some say running it the best form of self-defence. I was training for a 100k ultramarathon, which as you can guess took up a bit of time. Thanks.

Yeah, it was great I done was is called the lapland ultra, amazing its 24 hour sunlight at this time of year, race starts at 22.00 so your running all night. Had reindeer crossing my path at 0.800 just amazing. It hurt but it was worth it, done it in 12.18 which I was pleased with. :D Cheers

Hi, I am looking for a Kickboxing Club anywhere in Carlow, Kilkenny or Kildare - can anyone help me?

Hey Jake you have a good choice with Sean Dillon President of the Irish Muaythai Council running a club in Bagnalstown and Paul Cummins running a kickboxing gym in Kilkenny. I'd say you'ed pick up both mobile nos in Irish Fighter or you could PM me for Sean's.

Odysseus - best of luck in that fencing club in Clondalkin. I've been interested in learning some fencing myself, but the training clashes with a lot of other stuff I do.
