    Girlfriend is looking for her first car at the moment. She wants something like a Fiesta, Clio, 106, or Corsa for around 2 to 3 grand, so I reckon plenty of cars in that range will have loads of hidden gremlins.

    Is there a good site that gives advice on what to look for in particular cars (e.g. model X: check head gasket has been done by Y miles)?

    I'll be getting a mechanic I know to look over any car before handing over cash, but if I can learn a bit to find stuff that rules them out before getting him involved all the better.
