Monthly/weekly Luas tickets cheaper at newsagents?

According to RTE’s Liveline you can save over 100 euro a year by buying monthly Luas tickets at newsagents, the reason according to a LUAS spokesperson is to avoid queues at ticket vending machines.

Apparently they have advertised this info on the Luas website, and in some press interviews they’ve done – this really helps people who haven’t checked online or heard/read the interviews. It brings having to shop around to an all new meaning.

At the opening days flyers were handed

One of the reasons people don't is the newsagents only sell the whole luas ticket, they don't sell just the red line monthly ticket say (RPA price list doesn't quote a retail price for that ticket type)

As such for the vast bulk the ticket machine remains cheaper

Smartcard fare are lower as well

There's a difference with Smartcard fares being lower. People don't expect a difference between vending machines and newsagents. Many would actually expect the machines to be cheaper.
