This should probably be in the what I saw today thread, but it's just sooooo long at the moment. Anyhow isn't not the car moreso the function. I was out walking for lunch and a 06-D Bently passed me with a bleedin' taxi sign on the roof! Now I know the country is mad! So the following comes to mind:

    1. Loaded Taxi driver
    2. Private car using bus lanes.

Should have tried to flag him for the craic.

Wasn't Michael O'Leary by any chance was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭jayok

Well there was no-one in the back and the taxi light was on. The driver was wearing fairly standard clothes (i.e. not a suit and tie)!

Don't think Michael O'Leary (tight-wad) would spend that kinda money on a car.

Most Limos and chauffeur driven cars are also taxis. They remove the sign for private work and stick it back up when business is slack. If you look at the taxi queue in Dublin Airport you will see quite a few S class Mercs also.
    06-D Bently

Are you sure it wasn't a Chrysler 300C. There's quite a few of them working.

I thought that at first, but at the second look it was definately a Bentely. The 'B' on the front and back was the give away! :)

If it is a legitmate taxi how on earth does he keep fuel in this! Let alone, depreciation, etc...

Probably does mostly VIP work. If Bono, for example, was arriving at the airport I don't think he'll be queing along the rank and climbing into a twelve year old Jap import. He would have something like the Bently to pick him up.

What leads you to believe that it's not a legimate TAXI ?

As mentioned , he may use it also as a Limo , this however will change in September when the licencing laws change and Taxi'x and Limo's will need a seperate plate , thus guys who use their Taxi as a limo will no longer be able to do so .

being able to use the bus lanes is handy though

it was me. My lada was being washed at the time.

I've never seen a bently working the airport, believe me, only private hire would justifie the cost of putting a bently on the road, normal taxi work wouldn't. Was it silver grey in colour with a grey haired fella driving, I don't doubt you know your cars jayok but the chrysler has what looks like a bently grill and there is one working the airport.

I'd have my doubts about private hire either.

I have seen this Bentley Taxi around the city a couple of times once with a well healed woman it it so I came to the conclusion that it was a private car using bus lanes.

IMO its either that or its some form of marketing promotion. But I reckon the former.

I've seen him dropping punters off @ departures in D/A . Normal paying folk . I know that he does private hire also . Hope to have his number soon ..

I regularly see two there - a silver one and a black one (both 3 litre diesels).

    a well healed woman

    Just back from Lourdes? :D

WRONG , There are several 300C Taxi's in Dublin , BUT there is also a Bently , I've seen it several times .....

I can see how I can confuse a 300c with a Bentley but I really did check the front and back of the car and the B logo was there! (Damn it why didn't I have my camera phone at the time).

It also moved like a Bentley - you know heavy but purposeful - hard to describe but if you've seen a Bentley you will know what I mean.

It screams "I've just made a lot of money quickly through property speculation". There's at least 3 Bentleys in Galway now.

Really? I don't see that many around and when I do they've UK registrations on them. But they are classy looking cars IMO. but then again maybe I am blinded by the brand.

Take a walk up baggot st and around fitzwillam sq and you'll see a few. or go by ashtons in clonskeagh on a friday afternoon... there's probably a few in the beacon court car park from des cullen... there's a black continental GT in sandyford ind est that I walk by every day too. They just seem to be very popular.

I reckon if the op is positive it's a bently that it must be privatly owned and they have done a michael whathisface from ryan air and use it for the bus lanes. Apart from the outragous insurance the 72 quid a year road tax might make it worth their while...ish.

Anyone know the taxi plate number? Could check to see if it is a real taxi.
