Just heard, you need to be certain age to remember Wynne-Jones reading the news and sport but he did it well. He went on to do PR work and other journalism.

    Mike.

He can't have been that old?

I remember him reading the RTE news in the mid 1980s.

Sorry for your loss Stephen. I remember him on the radio when we we getting ready for school. My mother used to refer to him as 'whirlwind' Jones as he was so energetic.

Yes, I heard Vere speak once or twice at the Sales Institute monthly meetings, always had an interesting story to say in his speeches. RIP.

He presented a Seminar I was speaking at and managed to make the turgid subject matter seem interesting. I saw him around the neighbourhood after that (he lived around the corner) and he always said hello. A very nice man - RIP.

Stephen I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your father was a really lovely man - I worked with him briefly while he was doing the sports news in Lite FM (as was). He gave fantastic advice and was such a pleasure to work with.

He was a true gentleman and one of a kind!

That's sad news indeed, he brought such energy and enthusiasm to his broadcasts, that he was always a pleasure to listen to. RIP.

I attended one of the seminars that Vere gave, and it was at a time that he was receiving treatment for his illness.

The stoicism, positive attitude and humour which he displayed were nothing short of inspirational.

I would add that he struck me as a very warm, engaging, good-humoured and polite person, and sincere sympathy to Stephen and his family.

I also attended a seminar given by Vere. An absolute gentleman and professional. It saddens me to hear such shocking news this morning.

My sincere sympathies to you, Stephen, and to your family on your great loss.

It was great to hear him back covering the Horse Racing on Radio 1 and I read the interview in the Evening Herald just a few months ago. I didn't know things took a turn for the worse, so when Jimmy Magee said it yesterday during Sunday Sport, I was genuinely taken aback, as was he; I'm sure he choked up at the end. He gave Vere a brilliant send-off, as only the memory man could.

    R.I.P.
