Anyone signed up to bandwagon.ie which is also a .co.uk

There's a piece in todays Sunday Tribune Business section. I just had a look and it looks like a music focused myspace clone, the site relies heavliy on a damnedable embedded player and looks/sounds pretty poor. Why are these sites apparently designed by 18 year olds?.

    Mike.

ugh, got as far as the homepage, looks mingin

Signed up just for fun. The homepage is pretty shíte alright. its like they packed everything they possibly could into it and it looks a mess. The "Dashboard" is pretty crap. it consisted of Four links - "Upload Content" "View Band" "Edit Band Profile" "Start a Forum For Your Band"

pretty boring and limited really. I wont be using it.

ah everyone wants to have an irish music website these days

im 3 years running mine and as far as i can see that bandwagon site is just an english business type site moving into irish soil.

and because bands will take any exposure going. they'll get a load of signups

have to say i didnt know where to look on that frontpage alright

Yeah, well at the moment everyone is having a crack at it, and they are opening and closing faster than a normal span of a website.

    i reckon between

    CPU
    THUMPED
    Goldenplec
    Cluas
and the only newcomer i'll give credit to Drop-D

there really isnt that much space to get more users. its a small country, and people become loyal to one site all the time.

    but look at oxegen.ie/mb
the reg's over there went a a member created board, it literally just is chat, no real site basis. no services bar a forum.

the electric picnic forum has some good memberships ( like all official forums ) but its quiet from time to time and just doesnt interest me

i dont know weather to include boards in it. boards do represent some of the irish radio stations forums and other music forums. but doesnt aim at music news and band services kind.

but all the new sites that open up week after week, with super slow forums. would do well to put their efforts into joining in with an established community.

i dont think people realise the hosting costs and domain costs involved and after a site gets busy, it closes. no funds.

im sure miju with CPU you know all about bandwidth bills

aye indeed i know all about bandwidth costs and it's about to get alot worse very soon     ;)

true what you say about them opening and closing at a very high turnover rate and to be honest alot of the sites have nothing to really offer bands except a bit of space and that's all and they mostly seem to be just a clone of each other and some do it alot better than others :)

    my personal run down:

    cluas - for muso critics
thumped - to tell you like it is
drop-d - alot done more to do but will defo be a stayer if they can get a bit more organised (which is hard considering they do it for free)
goldenplec - used to be a phpnuke site and tbh haven't been on it since doing the visuals for yiz in the music centre for those gigs so cant really comment
cpu - does what it says on the tin cant really say much about a site that i run the web end of as i'd be a bit biased now wouldnt i

but yeah i reckon your list about sums it up alright dionsis

    Hi Everyone
Thanks for your comments, here at bandwagon we want the website shaped by those who matter and thats you the audience.

We are working on developing the site to suit the members needs, so you shouldnt imagine that we will look like this forever.

For example we are working on the dashboard feature - right as we speak.

We arent just an English company who are trying to encroach on Irish Soil, we have close Irish links and are backed by an Irish company.

We are dedicated to the devlopment of new artists and the independent music scene, and yes there are a lot of websites out there which you might consider our competitiors.

Some offer downloads, some offer a music player, some offer mobile, some video but at Bandwagon we like to think we are offering a comprehensive service and are dedicated to achieving the best possible service.

This is why we value your comments, so send them over to me at

tara@bandwagon.co.uk - if you want to!

if your going to say that then at least put in a .ie email addy it might sound a bit more believeable

I'll be blunt here and this is all I'm going to say because I don't want to turn this thread into a cock measuring content (especially if ur a woman :) ) I'm not coming from a CPU.ie perspective either merely as a long time observer in the scene.

Bandwagon would want to research your "competitors" a good bit better as you'll find that the majority of the well established Irish music sites (and I'm not talking about CPU.ie specifially here either) offer everything Bandwagon do. my personal feedback to bandwagon would be that they'd seriously want to "up their game" so to speak as i know a few Irish music sites are doing some seriously trojan work in changing the face of irish indie music online (as now speaking from a CPU.ie perspective that includes us doing some serious overhauling that will open many new and different online promotion opportunities and tools for artists but I won't go into that as it will all be revealed in due course and again I don't want to turn this post into a shilling excercise for CPU either)

your competition is to be commended as would any that gives an irish band the chance to spread their wings out of ireland but you failed to say what costs the bands would incur (if any) such as transport / accomadation etc

hopefully , bandwagon brings something different to the mix (though from what i can see it doesn't) and helps to fight the good fight in furthering the long term development of irish indie music like all the other music sites such as goldenplec , drop-d etc do

Odd, I would say I rarely visit any of those sites. Wouldn't matter to me if site was Irish/British/Chinese if the content was decent (ok well maybe not chinese :o)

Maybe its just me but they're all much of a muchness no? Same with myspace & bebo, just more tripe. Its like the latest fashion accessory, along with your camera phones, wristbands and furry dice :D

    Meh!

aye shany that's what i was saying they are all much of a muchness bit each has it's own uses as i posted above , most though are most defo clones of each other even with the same bands

i tell ye one thing though , fluffy dice aint never going outta fashion :)

Its why I use sites like artistserver and soundclick which are by and for musos and "proper" fans of "proper" music.

    Mike.
