Capri not a classic?? Get away out of that!

    Of course it's a classic.

Anyway, Capri's are great cars, good fun to drive, easy to maintain and still relatively easy to get parts for. The Mk3 is the one to go for in terms of spares availability and if you want to use it a fair bit. My main bits of advice are to check the strut tops, arches, boot floor and front wings to see if they're rusted out if you're buying one, and also that you should go for one with a 5 speed gearbox, as the 4 speed is a bit lacking in the motorway/ dual carriageway department. The usual mechanical checks you'd do with any old car also apply. Door hinges can also bend over time as the doors are really long and quite heavy. They can rust at the bottom too.
Still, all things considered they're a great car.

My current car is a '94 Ford Granada saloon but i drove a Mk3 capri before the granada and my next car will be MK3 Capri

Good friend of mine is a collector of capri's, think he has around 10 at the moment. He buys them, fixes them up and then sells them on. He's based in north dublin, if you pm me I can I put you touch with him

They had terrible problems cornering if I remember correctly.

(When I was growing up they were known as the "Fánny Catcher".) :D

dont think many were rallied 1275, they had the escort for that, lots of them were used for track work though, some wildly modified

Yeah why use a Capri when an Escort Mk 1 is lighter, and less expensive to fix as far as bodywork goes !

They used 3000cc Capri's on the track in the 70's !

There was a guy in Raheny village, in the Crescent, with a Mk1 sitting outside in daily use for years. It seesm to have vanaished now but it was in good shape !

My father had alledgedly the first Capri 2000GT in Ireland, Mk1 V4. Super car, I have good memories of it, though it gave a lot of trouble including going on fire when we were at mass one day !! It was only about 6 months old and Ford had to put a new interior into it .................which was suspiciously stolen about 2 weeks after we got it back !!

There are a few capris in the current autotrader, including an interesting looking red 3litre,
On the subject of rallying capris, a few rallycross four wheel drive monsters were made but i think the idea was dropped in favour of mainstraem rallying with the escort.

MK1 capris werent the bast handlers bur i would nevere go so far as one of the posters on here saying that all capris have a problem with cornering, he may be getting mixed up with the fact that a vcapri with an LSD is almost guaranteed to get the back end out on a roundabout
