That blog recommended selecting "never dial" in Internet Options>>Connections

Tried it, then when I clicked on firefox, wouldn't connect.

Is it the case that firefox is not suitable for dial up connections at all?

I use perlico as my ISP and installed the dial up numbe, user name and password through the dial up networking wizard, so there's no isp software loaded

    Any more ideas?

Did you establish the dial up connection before starting Firefox ?

When set to never dial any "Internet program" will not force a dial out automatically.

The error you describe is nothing to do with Firefox but a problem with the OS itself but it is fixable see this link and this for a more technical solution.

I've tried the simple solution - doesn't work.

Technical Solution 8t8 you're the man

Got working by removing all network adapters>>restart>>reinstall.
