I was wondering when Film4 was going free, I for one can't wait. I always see something good when scrolling down through the channels. Thanks for the heads up, must catch this show.

Didn't know that about FilmFour. Fabulous news!

One of the things they're not saying in the promo ads for free FilmFour is that there will now be ads during the films.

There's a new Sky Movies ad bragging that they still have ad-free films.

I quite like ad breaks in televised films. I watch a lot of Sky Movies in my job and it annoys the hell out of me when I have to leave to take a piss. As long as there's no more than one break every thirty minutes I think it's quite alright.

What's the story with filmfour anyway, is it going to show up on analogue cable as well?

I dont mind ad breaks but what really pisses me off is when they pause a movie halfway through to put on the news. As long as Film4 dont do that I'm happy.

BBC and RTE do it at times as well. No-one should ever watch a filum on ITV.

I don't think the ranking is up yet but here is the A-Z.

I've seen 40 of those films so I guess I'm gonna die soon.

There's some questionable stuff on there imho eg Erin Brocovich and Sexy Beast. I reckon EB was just thrown in there because they have screening rights and they were coming up short on movies for the ladies.

Sure the whole things a worthless puff piece of cross-promotion. Which C4 are rather too keen these days.

The most annoying thing about watching this last night was the fact that they gave away a majority of the endings to most of the films. I watched in disbelief as key final scenes or twists in Alien, Brazil, Fight Club, Heavenly Creatures, Lost in Translation, Manhunter, Scarface and The Shawshank Redemption to name but a few were casually carved up.

I know these films have been around a while but surely this negates the whole "films you must see before you die" premise! I won't bother now C4, thanks.

I'd be pretty 'meh' about a few of those on the list.

That sucks about ads during the Film4 movies. Ah well, free is free.

Yeah I agree, very annoying giving away the endings.

No. 1 on the list was
    Apocalypse Now
    .

yeah that was an absolute joke, in the case of the Shawshank Redemption, the only thing they showed of it was the fookin end, i mean where
he's escaping from the prison through the sewage pipes
. I didn't see the whole thing but was the usual suspects in it, they could really spoil that movie.

I was shocked by that! They didn't even mention it beforehand. They could learn from Boards. I was a bit surprised at some of the films there all right. But what list can actually be a definite one?
No Usual Suspects - God yeah, they could have had a field day ruining that for people.

Aye, that was fairly annoying. I haven't seen the last half hour of Fight Club, and was looking forward to watching the big twist some day, but that's all pretty pointless now.

EDIT: Pretty crappy list, too, I thought.

So chuffed they had Manhunter on that list, what a film! Brian Cox was a far better Lector imo! Was suprised th Breakfast Club was on there instead of Ferris Buellers. Erin brokovich shouldn't have been on it, but i'd agree with most of the list, except as well apocolypse now. Most important film to see before you die, i don't think so. I'm glad there'll be breaks on film4 too, always good to get an owl cup a tae.

It was a complete joke, see the breakfast club before you die but don't bother with the godfather, the third man or citizen kane? give me a break

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Yeah, as I said, it's hard to compile a definitive list but leaving out The Godfather? Rather idiotic, frankly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭crybaby

it was a pretty good list in fairness to them and yes they left out The Godfather and one or two ridiculous ones made the list but stuff like The Apartment, This Sporting Life, Aguirre, The Wrath of God was on there

really it was just a list of films that will be on film four in the next 18 months, why the hell did they feel it nessecary to show the conclusion of nearly every single film though? i had to keep flicking it over
