    Hi guys,
Just got m nice shiney Imac and i have installed Firefox, I have a question on this. At the bottom in the Dock i have the Firefox logo ready to use. When selected i get a Volume Icon just under the HDD icon on the desktop, is this normal or did i miss something?

Firefox has been added to the Applications folder!

    Cheers
    D

Did you put the installer onto the dock? It seems like you are trying to open a .dmg or an expanding folder.

Click on the firefox icon in the dock and drag it out of the dock. Now go to your applications folder and drag the firefox application into the dock. The application should now be correctly shortcutted to the dock.

    Have you used Firefox yet?

When you go to your applications and File-Info on the firefox application what does it say? Does it say "Kind: Application"? Maybe you haven't installed it correctly.

What you're clicking on is called a Disk Image. It's like a little virtual CD contained inside in a file. When you double-click it, it mounts on your desktop like a CD would, and is ejected the same way (by dragging it to the trash, or hightlighting it and pressing command-e).

OS X applications are distributed like this across the internet because in their normal form they can't survive being moved across non-Mac machines without being damaged. They need to be packaged inside a little virtual OS X filesystem. This is where the Disk Image comes in.

Double-click on that Firefox icon. A new icon should appear under your hard drive on the desktop. Inside that is the actual Firefox application. Drag that anywhere you want to on your hard drive (typically you would put it in /Applications, but it's entirely up to you).

Double-click on the icon you dragged to start Firefox. You can now eject the Disk Image from which you dragged Firefox, and delete the Disk Image file.
