Somehow have got myself into a really sticky situation. At a house party two weeks ago (small affair, not a raver, everyone knew each other, chat and drink, mellow) and gave guy I know ish a back rub. He texted to say thanks and ended up trading some fairly dirteh messages with him. Assumed I was going to be asked out but according to mutual friend, he is not the relationship type and probably just wants to sleep with me. I feel he's expecting it now and dunno how to tell him it aint on without making a mess. We have to work together in a college group for the next year. Awkward much?

You do realise that's speculation, right? Maybe he will ask you out, maybe he won't but if you've been texting for the past two weeks and you would like to go out with him then why don't you ask him out? If all he wants to do is sleep with you and you don't then you don't have to. The dude can expect all he wants.

    Actually, do this instead.

    Nope not awkward at all.
Text as often as you want.Do what you want.Laugh when he suggests sleeping with you.Treat the conversation as a bit of fun but dont sleep with him if you dont want to.
Do go out with him for sure if he asks but treat the relationship in the way that you would treat any.
You're not pining for him or in love with him at this stage so just go with the flow.
If he gets into a hissy fit because he expects you to sleep with him[one nighter or buddy sex minus the relationship] and this is not what you want, then laugh and joke it off making it clear it aint going to happen.
If the hissy fit becomes a sulk, then you are better off without him

In short treat this as no big deal and a laugh and you'll be fine.
Get the idea of awkwardness out of your head.

isn't there some rule about people only posting with REAL problems? What's the issue here? You don't have to sleep with the guy just because you traded some dirty text messages.

And for the love of god, where do you get the idea that because a guy engages in some flirting sexual banter he's obliged to ask you out? Childish much?

    this sounds familiar, no?

you should tell him you're not interested before he books the hotel...

Just say no to things you don't want to do.

Stop thinking about how potentially embarrassing it might be if you don't sleep with the guy. It'd be much worse to go through with it and not want to.

Think how annoyed you'd be with yourself and how weak you'd feel.

I assume your real worry is that he'll stop liking you completely if you don't have sex with him. Well that's just silly. If he gets pissed off about it then he's not worth worrying about. Why would you give a damn what he thinks of you,in that case?

See how things go with him for yourself.

Don't do anything you don't want to do, just cuz you exchanged a few dirty texting doesn't mean you have to sleep with him just like it doesn't make him have to go out with you.

Stop replying to his dirty texts and don't sleep with him maybe? I thought it would have been obvious.
