Am i the only one really looking forward to this film? the buzz has been terrible because its a remake of an 80's tv show, and we all know how good hollywood are at those. But its directed by Michael Mann, one of the best directors working today, and all the early reviews have been extremely positive.

Everyone should check out the official site too:

    www.miamivice.com

(to get in to the restricted section just put in any US zip code, eg. 90210)

coolest movie website i've seen in years. would take hours to look through the whole thing.

Nope, I'm looking forward to it as well and it's all down to Mann's influence - the film, from the trailer, looks gorgeous just as "Collateral" did. I like the saturated effects I see there, colours bleeding into each other.

The plot's probably going to be ho-hum but I imagine there'll be enough of a frentic pace injected into it to lift it above the norm and the acting should be decent.

Really like the trailer for some reason so hope there's promise behind it.

the trailer has provoked some mixed reactions, with alot of people getting a bad boys vibe from it - the kiss of death.

but the early reviews have said to expect a difficult but very adult film. very different from the tv show or at least how people now view the show.

I'm looking forward to it but I would be REALLY looking forward to it if it didnt hav wally Farrell in it. If you notice the trailers dont show Farrell speaking (well not in the trailers in the states)

Im looking forward to this. Im a fan of Michael Mann and this movie looks to have his usual style. Read an article in Empire about it and they said that the footage they have seen so far is brilliant. I have high hopes for this.

That site is damn cool as well.

"do you understand the meaning of the word forboding, as in badness is happening right now" starts off the trailer how could you miss him speaking.:D

i think it'll be great, a revamp of the show bringing it forward to modern culture and society, Mann knew what he was doing when he produced the TV show 20 years ago , and he knows what he's doing now.i'll tell you what i think next monday.

What is the name off the tune that gets played for the trailer of this movie? It's driving me crazy trying to find out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 765 ✭✭✭6ix

Linkin Park and Jay Z (??) I think... It's called Encore anyway, but I'm not sure of the rapper.

Yeah its Jay Z. Can't wait for this. Action doesnt come a lot better in Hollywood these days then Mann directing a crime film.

This movie looks a lot grittier and serious than the series - imo a bad thing. We got plenty of that stuff floating around and that just isn't miami vice.

Also, they killed off Elvis. For such sins they will face terrible retribution!

Give it a different name if you're going to change everything.

Looking forward to this one too.

Saw a bunch of clips from it and some of the action scenes look pretty damn good.

    Mann is a quality director.

Will he be using Phil Collins songs on the soundtrack though? Isn't that the big question?

:D I'm looking forward to it because I love action movies, the soundtrack on the trailer is pretty sweet and mainly because of Colin Farrell. :):)

I saw this yesterday, it was ok, nothing brilliant, some good action scenes. Some of the dialgoue was really badly spoken in it though I thought. The Chinese one was really hard to understand I thought when ever she spoke.
The 2 people I went to see it with thought that it was rubbish but I think I would give it around 7/10.

I understand Mann has chucked out everyhting that Made the series so er naff but adorded by many. Prolly should have called it something else.

    Mike.

I am going to see it tomorrow, so I hope it is decent enough, but I'm sure it will be. I am a big fan of Michael Mann and I love the atmosphere in his movies. He can make places like L.A. look like one of the calmest places on the planet with his very cool dawn/night shoots.

Im just back from seeing it now in a sweltering Screen 3 in Blanch UCI... Not too bad, nothing spectacular but entertaining nonetheless, great to see an Irish actor taking a main lead in such a major Hollywood blockbuster as they say...

To sum it all up in a few words id say mullets, moustaches, mojitos and holes in the head for the bad guys...

Mojito Head (ooh would i like a Mojito just now - yum)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,058 ✭✭✭Ronan H

Just to add, i love Jamie Foxx's line about the ships...

"Theres gonna be ships there, and ships move, thats what they do. If they're not moving, they're pretending to be an apartment, and in the middle of the ocean that draws attention..."

Or something like that, a great line indeed, please feel free to correct!

    Apartment Head

    Saw the movie today :(
The only redeeming qualities are that I don't mind watching Colin Farrell up on the big screen for a few hours :D and that I went with my best friend and she and I cracked jokes (quietly) to each other regarding some corny movies lines. Other than that, it was crappy in my humble opinion.

This really was just plain awful! I had relatively high expectations, Mann has made some great movies. But the whole movie was really just a non-event in my opinion. Nothing really happens the whole way through it. Maybe i'm partially deaf or something, but almost everyone in the movie seemed to spend most of the time muttering. My main problem was that I felt the movie didn't know what it should be! He could have done it as a proper serious crime thriller & it could have been great, he could have done it as an overly cheesy 80s camp homage & it probably would have been absolutely brilliant! but instead it was kinda half way between the two. And it all seemed too contrived. I love no-brainer action movies but the last couple i've seen have been really poor (MIami Vice & MI:3). And by the way
is the tumble forward now the ultimate dodge bullets from machine gun technique. How the f*ck did Jamie Foxx not get shot in the end when he jumps over and tumbles forward before having time to get his shot off at the bad guys!!!!

Best part of Miami Vice, the trailer for Snakes On A Plane beforehand!!!!

The best part of Miami Vice was the soundtrack.

    And the Transformers teaser trailer.

This film is the worst I've seen all year. Alexander, A New World and now this, wtf is Colin Farrell doing?? Can he not visualise a good/bad film from the script?

I am really surprised at Michael Mann, he is largely at fault for this film being absolute ****e.

She's not bad for 40 is she?!
Personally I didn't go into the film with huge expectations. Its Miami Vice after all, it was never going to change my life.
I think it was pretty good. Farrell was fine and Foxx didn't do much but did it adequately.
Action sequences were good I thought, especially the last gun battle.
Plus there was lots of cool cars and boats and other such stuff.
True, there was a bit too much FBI talk that was a bit hard to comprehend but the story wasn't overly taxing.
    I'd give it a 7/10.

Never thought there was much point in remaking it. Miami Vice was 1985. In my opinion, it was a show that was more of its time than any other. It was groundbreaking during 1984-89. Leave it there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

I thought the only bad thing about the film was that Farrell occasionally slipped into a husky Clint Eastwood-esque voice which was really distracting. He was fine when he just spoke normally but it was like he was trying too hard sometimes and the husk came out.

Other than that the film is pretty cool. Michael Mann really knows how to shoot a film like you're driving by night in the city and he picks some great locations for his set pieces. All the actors did a good job and the script is nothing special but it's an easy film to watch if you just bask in the sumptuous visuals.

Oh, and I agree with what spacecoyote said in his spoiler. I really raised an eyebrow at that.

    [Farrell]I'm trying to eat lunch[Farrell]

One word to describe it.... cóck. Absolutly terrible. Michael Mann should be ashamed. From the man who brought us heat!!!

What this film had to do with Miami Vice I have no idea. What terrible casting to cast Gong li. She looked awful, couldn't understand a word she said. Colin Farrell was his usual self. Jamie Fox was the only redeaming thing in the whole film. Story/Plot was crap.

All through the film I was thinking Jesus Mann musn't have written/directed this. I must have got it wrong. Nearly fell out of my seat when the credits came up.

    This film was a joke!
Cant believe i wasted my time and money on this filth.
Collateral was better than this joke of a film.
I sat and thought to myself "where,s the action?" or "where,s the story?"
The story didnt fit in to the 21st century setting either.
    Utter filth.

I can't believe this film was directed by the same person who gave us Heat. I didn't hate, but neither did I love it. Two people also walked out of it when I went to see the movie. It had some great locations and scenery, but the whole film seemed a bit forced and disjointed. Disappointing really. 6/10.

You should have bought more crap to chew on while you were there so you wouldnt get bored. Or then again just have gone to the flick next door with loads of bright lights and flashing colours
