Lads im just wondering does anybody have any idea where I could get my hands on a copy of this movie.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467403/

Im not sure if it has been picked up for distribution but I have heard that it is a brilliant movie and I would love to see it.

Anybody have any ideas? Has anyone seen it?

I've not seen it. Looks like it could be good. It appears that it's only been shown at film festivals so far. Keep an eye on this website for release information.

Hmmm written producer edited directed and scored, by the Dermot Doyle, who has no previous IMDB profile. And all made for €20,000? With an IMDB rating of 9.7 out of ten? With a plot about open gang warfare in general. With a cast which includes a camera assistant, an art director, and an assistant producer of You're a Star, and Tubrity tonight (thats right, cast, not crew, cast, as in actors)

Colour me skeptical. I'm not saying it's not possible, we may have found an Irish Robert Rodriguez, but I think it's unlikely I'll have to dust off my big book of hat reciepes, (for the eating you see)

I saw the first half hour or forty minutes of it at the Galway Fleadh last year (or maybe the year before?).

Wasn't very impressed really. I felt it relied much to heavily on voice over and the camera work/sound was a bit patchy.

[trying to be diplomatic here] I think the director/writer needs to realise that there is a reason most people don't write/direct/produce/edit/score their own movie. From what I've heard he is intending to do the same again on his next project - I hope he gets talked out of this.

Don't know where you could get a copy however - haven't heard anything about it being picked up for distribution. Your best bet might be contacting the director straight.

From the website: COMING SOON: 'Climbing the Hill : The Making of Hill 16' - a forty minute
documentary/video masterclass will soon be available

Masterclass? Surely this implies that he is a master? Sorry. No.

He might well have potential but to describe yourself as a master after your first film? Bit of an ego at work?

    From the IMDB user comments:

[Hill 16] leaves the likes of "Adam & Paul"....standing!

Sorry no. This is bull****. Adam and Paul is a well made, scripted, directed, shot and acted film. Hill 16 is not as good as it.

People are entitled to their own opinions but then some opinions are just wrong.

    Hmmm reads Jeff's post,

lets look at the user comments on imdb.com
I saw this at the SNOB festival in New Hampshire and was impressed. This has excellent acting and is a polished product in every way, by far the most professional true "indie" that I've seen at small screenings. The "thriller" aspect was a bit thin as the ultimate reveal was fairly obvious, that's the only drawback.

I think it could have been tightened up just a bit at the end but I was very impressed. I've seen a lot of micro budget true indie films and this one sung. The acting by the younger leads, particularly Conor Ryan and Luke Cameron, really hold the movie together.

The strength of the writing is in the humor and characters. The plot works fine but isn't as strong as the other elements. Still, if you want to see good storytelling outside of the Hollywood system, check this film out.

And he gives it 8/10 stars, I like the way he gives it minor pieces of criticism in the middle of that torrent of praise, gives that planted postive IMDB.com review that added wiff of plausibility.

In fact all the reviews mention the casts full names correctly Despite having seen the film once at a film festival, and most of the cast not even having photos up on IMDB.com. I'm not saying it's beyond the realm of reason that four or five Americans saw this film and remembered everything about it, and came on to IMDB.com to write rave reviews, I'm just a little leery.

The names of the cast are on the imdb page for the movie so they could easily have looked at that to refresh their memory of the cast and how to spell their names.

Yeah, but in each case to remember the character's name and the actor's name as well? When there's no visual reference in the form of an actors pic?

Im not saying that your wrong but I think what your implying is unlikely.

That a film maker wouldnt plant a bunch of fake postive reviews on IMDB, is unlikely? A film maker without a marketing budget wouldn't resort to a little bit of padding the reviews?

You think thats less plausible that five seperate people, seeing the film at a festival go on IMDB, write glowing reviews getting the cast names and character names exactly right?

wow! the famous begrudging irish attitude strikes it's weary head again. come on guys! As an Irish person in england I saw this movie at a festival and it went down a storm and was so proud it was done, ok with hardly any money { but never judge a film by its budget - unfortunately lots of the video-game gen do though! } but by an all irish cast and director! Just check out all the awards this film has won not just stateside but also in Europe. not many low budget movies can claim such!

Last i heard the film was picked up by HBO so as far as getting a copy is concerned i'd say a dvd release is on the cards or it will probably air sometime soon on irish/british tv.

Granted those of you who have seen it are entitled to your opinion, the joy of movies but those of you who have not then ... well dont be so 'envious' boys and girls...wait 'till you seent the film before you go thrashing it!

As for Adam and Paul , perhaps the worst irish movie ever made. Very poorly scripted and as for acted , just go down any irish back alley and observe two junkies???? ah i'm bowled over with laughter....A poor imitation of Beavis and Butt-head more like....

Hmmm, i was in this film when I was a kid, does anyone have any information on it? Maybe the scene I was in was cut, but it would be good to see it. Anyone have any more information?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,417 ✭✭✭Miguel_Sanchez

I don't think it was ever picked up for distribution.

Perhaps get in touch with the production company if they're still around?

Not really much info from their website I'm afraid: http://www.bluebridgepictures.com

"Strikes its weary head" is the most confusing mixed metaphor I've ever read.

That post has a ton of red flags on it, obviously - posted months later than the previous post, hence the film would likely have to have been Googled by name in order to find this thread, it's the user's first and only post and it's highly defensive of the film.

I know people don't like to see projects they were involved with dismissed out of hand (which it wasn't, even if some took a cynical viewpoint), but people need to realise no good can come from this sort of stuff.

It's also four years ago. I wouldn't worry about it.
