360 backward compatibility

I had a hell of a time convincing my 360 to play Doom3 and Battlefront 2, I went to 3 regions of the Xbox website looking for updates and got 3 different versions, one from Nov 05, one from March 06 and one from June 06, the latter on the US page, I thought it may have been incompatible with the Pal console so went through dialup hell downloading the March update to find Battlefront 2 working but Doom3 not, despite the list saying it would.
then downloaded the June 06 patch from the US site, thats 30 mins I'll never get back again, and lo and behold Doom3 works and still rocks.
So a busy evening.
Now I know if I had live it would all be automatic but as I am outside the area the point is moot.
So fun fun fun, I really thought the updates from new games would have updated the backward compatibility list too but obviously not.

It's an excellent way of making the punter shell out of the sequels of MS games, so you can't play Gothams 1 and 2 for instance.
Strangely Conker has yet to be made playable, I would buy that game simply for the pleasure of playing an N64 title on the 360, that and the cool opera singing poo monster, with sweetcorn for teeth!

I want Deus Ex: Invisible War to be playable! I picked it up for 8 Euro months ago and I was annoyed that it didn't work. I hope it's made playable soon.

I wish star wars republic commando was playable on my 360 I got it new in gamestop for 15 euro.
