Ok I havent a clue here, so il ask:

I had a good job last year for 4months that brought me a lot of experience and I want to put it on my CV, thing is do i have to ask for a reference from my then boss? Or can i just lash her name down on the CV?

Thing is she is quite intimidating and although she did seem to like me shes a bit of a weirdo and tbh id rather not talk to her on the phone!

And do i just ask can I put her as a refernce on my CV or do actually ask for a written refernence? I havent a clue!

Put 'References on request' on your CV.

When a potential employer asks you for a reference you can then contact your former employeer asking would they be able to give a verbal/written reference if contacted by a potential employer. You then pass on details to your potential employer, if your previous employer has given the ok.

NEVER put references on a CV.

It's common courtesy to ask your previous employer if they would mind acting as a reference. Getting a written reference is important, because whoever your boss was might move on in the future. I employ people and I am usually offered written references, I accept these at face value only when I cannot contact the previous employer.

phone up a good contact, or HR person and ask if they will be a referee for you, and let them know when you are going for interviews and if and when they may expect a call.

never put down someone without their knowledge.
it is extremely bad form, and you may not like what they say about you if the get the hump over it.

Why not? I always put the contact details of my referees for each job on my CV, so long as it stays to 2 pages. Not to do so looks like you're trying to avoid them...

I think he means not to put the actual written reference in a CV.

Oh right, i thought I was meant to just write - reference on request?

Can anybody clear this up on what exactly I should do? I plan on getting a written reference anyway...so i presume on my CV i just write refence on request and then show them the written refernce if needed

    Yes - that's what I would do.

dont bother putting either the reference and contact details on the cv, or putting 'references on demand'

if they want a reference, they will ask you, and you can supply them, or they will come up in an interview, and you can tell them then.

or even say that you want to wait until there is something more concrete.

wouldnt waste the space on the paper.
