has anyone here been a victim of online credit card fraud? I've been crying down the phone all morning to the poor bank phone support people. A company in the US, charged me, never shipped the order, and this morning recharged me! It wasn't a mix up and I can see from their messy emails that it's surely a scam - I feel really stupid for giving my credit card details. It was for a health supplement. Has anyone else been had?

    Sh*t, sorry to hear that.

No fortunately I havent but theres been a company in england thats been doing stuff like that, youy buy something off them, they sell memorial coins, and then they would ship more random coin collections to you and when you returned the stuff to them they take double what the stuff is worth from your credit card.

Never, thankfully. I've received dozens of scam emails, I even have a gmail account I set up and registered on a load of dodgy websites to see how many scam offers I got.

I have received some very well crafted ebay ones and an excellent Natwest one.

I only realised recently that many scammers deliberately insert spelling mistakes into their emails in an attempt to weed out cautios people. That way, once they take the punter, it's less likely to be noticed. Strange!

Where did you find this company supplying health supplements? Don't link or give the name but was it email, google search?

Remember, if it looks too good to be true...it probably is.

yeah i got caught there a few weeks back. my credit card was in its last week before expiration. I got a call from the bank when I was in London for the weekend. They told me they've discovered some odd transactions and listed out a load of them to me, stuff like AOL, familyheritage.com (196 euro!!) and others, and I just said no none of them are mine. The said grand we've intercepted them and a new card is on the way.

Must say I was very impressed with the way the bank handled it. All sorted now :)

Freaked me out though as im very carefull about online security and purchases.

I get at least 10 scam emails or phishing emails every day. Never been had, but I can see how people are, some are very sophisticated. Someone did a pretty good Barclays one recently. Sorry to anyone whose been caught, at least it sounds like the cc companies have their act together on this.

I googled them - US company - all in all they've charged me 184e... expensive way to learn my lesson. The girls at the bank were beyond nice, I'm going to write a letter praising them! I'm sticking to paypal only online from now on...

    Thanks for the support everyone!

Sorry to hear about that OP, thankfully I have dodged the numerous email scams and phone calls with my credit card and rating still intact. :)

Credit cards are probably the safest way to buy online. If you have been scammed and you notify your CC company in writing and are persistant with them, then there is a good chance of getting your money back.

I got one of those emails from a guy in Africa saying he wants to use my a/c to transfer funds or some crap and that he would give me a few grand for it.
I replied "sure no problem, infact I'm bending over right now".
He wrote back looking for my a/c number and said he was delighted i was so enthusiastic:rolleyes:

LOL, damn funny story! I got one of them before going on about how this guy was dying and his family was fighting over the money ect ect so he wanted to send it to charity. He was asking me to hold $100M in my account so his family couldnt take it and then pass it on and he would give me 20% of the sum. There are some emails that simply dont work (i hope) on anyone! I didnt bother replying but if i can get a laugh like the story above i might have to next time. I have also get Barclays and Natwest emails asking to confirm details as this that and the other may be happening on my account but with 1 giveaway factor...I DONT HAVE ACCOUNTS WITH THEM!!

I am now very intrigued, how does one attract these dodgy scam emails.
I am very excited now as I want to receive some of these myself.
Can anyone direct me as to how I can attract these.

    Thanks

I've no idea how they target you, I did'nt get the email in my personal email a/c but an a/c for a University sports club I am involved with. AFAIK there is a site somewhere where people mess these guys around or even catch them and post up their trophies:D , seen it somewhere before but can't remember the link, think it might be in an after hours thread somewhere.

If anyone here has been caught in a scam before I will compensate you...just PM me the details of your bank account and the credit card you used when you were swindled and I will deposit compensation into your account. Be sure also to forward me any internet banking logins and passwords so that I can verify that you are who you say you are ;):p

I have sent my first reply, of course I am shocked at the death of someone who might be related to me who has all the cash.
At the moment I am waiting for him to reply to me telling where the grave is located as my conscience cannot be at ease knowing I may have missed a fiamily members funeral.
Of course I closed with how eager I am to claim any monies that may be left owing to my family!!!

    HA:D
