Tried it a long time a go with W2K and it did'nt work, it bsod'd on me.

Anyway currently got an MSI SLI board. However i think the pci-e is a bit wonky on it(not supplying enough voltage), so i'm replacing it. I got an ASUS crossfire board, and will change it over the weekend. Thing is i don't want to reload the OS if possible as i don't want to download steam again and the BF2 add-on packs and several other programs. If i was to remove all drivers before the board swap, would i bluescreen or would it crash out. I've a funny feelling i'll get an inacessible boot device error. Maybe it might work, if it does'nt would putting in the XP cd and running repair fix it? Is there another way around it.

What chipset is on each board? If they are kinda similar it might work.
If it doesn't work though then as you said it's just a simple matter of booting up with the XP CD and running a repair. Skip the initial option to repair and proceed as normal then setup will detect the existing windows installation and ask you do you want to repair, this is the option to go for.
Best of look with the crossfire board!!

Nforce4 on the MSI, and xpress 3200 on the ASUS. think i'll be using the repair option alright.

I done it once with a system with Windows XP on it and was a bit messy afterwards so I just done a fresh install.

sysprep from M$ is what you need. Remove the drivers pertaining to your current mobo first
