Firstly, Is it just me or did they manage some submission holds and just let them "know" they were held and release and continue? Secondly, Is there a massive difference between gi and non-gi BJJ? I've seen moves that munipulate the opponents gi to lock the joints and execute chokes. Is this new thing? Is it seperated in competition?

Edit: Sorry, obviously it's easier to move someone by thier clothing cause you can grab it, please don't point that out. I mean w.r.t. moves and techniques.

imho until your about purple belt standard in BJJ then the whole gi v no-gi thing wont make any sense to you. but very briefly most of the fundementals remain the same but there are more techniques available with the gi

yes indeed- this is 2 players who know the difference between Training to Learn and Fighting to Win, rare in martial arts!

Thanks. It was not a loaded question. I just thought it might be a subtle aspect of BJJ that I was unaware of and I wanted to know as I genuinly (sorry, I am drunk) curious about all aspects of BJJ.

As am i, i had it in my head that there may be some slaps or such in bjj?

Slapping was considered too rough, so we've replaced it with "Hey, is that your mom?" before jump through the air and flying armbarring them to hell.

Had the opportunity to train with Javi back in 2001 when he was training at Next Generation for a fight in King of the Cage. Unbelievable wrestler, and was pretty sick on the mat back then, as a humble purple belt. Raging Im missing rodrigo.:( So if you are free and there are places left, get your ass along to train with this guys instructor.

I tried. I was using Trenchcoat 2.1, but that wasn't working so I switched to Anorak 3.0. I had a lot more success.

Don't know what thats got to do with Google though ...
