I will be visiting from the US August 14 - 19th.
What events, concerts, etc..., may be going on during that time?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

    Thanks! :)

    Malahide Castle
    hello there...

I'd do a tour of the city on a bus

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/sightseeing/cityTour.aspx

I'd certainly see the guinness storehouse, which if you time it right, you can incorporate into this tour (get on an early bus, get off at the storehouse, get pissed get back on a later bus)

Riverdance (i don't know who is dancing, prob no Mickey flatly)

    Hi there,
I suggest you visit Dublinia at Christ Church. You will get a great insight into the development of the medieval city from Viking origins to the
    14th century.

Another good exhibition is the one on the Bog Bodies (Iron Age) in the National Museum on Kildare Street. In fact, the museum is well worth a visit any time :) but I'm biased... I study archaeology!!

If you like good beer a trip to the Porterhouse on Parliament Street is a must. They brew their own beers and the staff are great. Maybe you'll see me there!! Some people reckon it's my second home!!

    Enjoy your visit :D

If you intend to go out at night, you should probably be wary of August 16th... Leaving Cert results night. Guinness Storehouse is a good few hours, Trinity College is a nice place to look around, although I was disappointed with the Book of Kells bit.

Malahide Castle isn't really my thing but it's worth coming out to the Malahide/Portmarnock/Howth area for a day - if it's sunny it's lovely, loads of beaches/parks/shops/restaurants etc. I recall enjoying the dingy ride from Howth to the island, 'Ireland's Eye', so I'd definitely recommend coming out this direction (yes, I live in the area - another attraction :D) for a day.

As for concerts, I'm surprised but there's very little going on. I am going on holiday on the 17th and I'm missing loads of great concerts, but none during the period you're here, unfortunately. Depending on what you're into, Faithless are playing, as is Arlo Guthrie (I thought he was dead). I would recommend going to see Oscar Wilde's 'The Importance of Being Earnest' in the Abbey Theatre. Even if you're not into theatre - I'm certainly not, but I enjoyed it - I'd recommend it as it's a genuinely funny play, and the Abbey is another of those 'must-see' venues in Ireland, sort of.

Hope that helps, enjoy your visit!

    Guinness Storehouse
It's the night the High School graduates get their final results, very busy, messy night in the city centre.
