Here's my collection of shots from the airshow, excluding the red arrows - they'll warrent a series of their own :)

    Salthill Air Show 2006

I find it interesting that everyone around me with a decent camera tended to keep the longest lens they had all day. Personally I like a few close-ups but I prefer the shots I took where I was using a fairly wide lens. There may be a lot of other air shows but not many over places as scenic as Galway Bay.

I hate to chime in with such an uninspiring comment... but they are fantastic. They stand as good pictures on their own, without being an aircraft enthusiast... I was at leuchars a couple years ago and ended up with about two shots i liked, and one was of a couple old guys with their flying jackets on ;) If I wasn't shooting film I might have come home with better mind you.

I also thought it was amusing that you made a whole other set for the red arrows, I used about two rolls of film on the french red arrows, hehe, the husband was hacked off because he was only interested in the F-15 ;)

Oh and P.S. The rest of your gallery is fantastic. I think I turned green while I was browsing, there...

Same here - those are some really good shots. Great processing and composition - specially liked the pic of the F-15.

Wow great shots, something very appealing about them that drew me in.

Have to agree with elven about the rest of your galley, so green!

I would love to know about your composition, do you compose your shots, do you "see" the finished shot before you take it?.

If you do compose, could you talk through the process in some of your fav pics?.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, glad you liked them.

Steoob: it was on the 25th of June, I didn't get to post them straight away though.

Fionn: yeh it looked like it would be dull but some sun poked through just in time similar to the one in 2005.

    Vexorg:
Regarding your question about composition, it really depends on the shot. For the airshow ones, only the wide angle ones could really be composed, as with the planes moving so quick it's mostly just trying to get timing right so they're in the shot at all :)

For other shots sometimes it's instinctive and I'll line it up fairly quick, with others, especially if using a tripod I'll take my time.

I think two important things are: if in doubt include more rather than less, I always keep in mind that I can crop later if I want to, and take more than one shot, try a lot of shots, and then be very selective when choosing what makes the grade.
