    I've heard good things about the asrock especially since it's got socket 940 upgradeability. If you don't need all the bells and whistles of the msi it would be a good option. Also overclocks well enough.

    This http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=313228 looks nice too though but I hear it can be picky when it comes to ram.

    u can grab the asus a bit cheaper at pixmania http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/102966/art/asus/a8n-sli-deluxe-socket-939.html plus you'll get dhl delivery for €14 or so (they can have crap customer service though)

    I have the Asrock dual board....currently with a 939 X2 3800.
    Nice cheap board but overclocks real well. My X2 is running at 2500 (stock is 2000) on air cooling with load temps of 40c max. Some folks have these running at 3000 with a beta bios and decent cooling.

    Yep...can use either or both graphics slots. Also it is upgradable to Skt AM2.
    Its a pretty blue colour too...important to me...maybe not to you :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,799 ✭✭✭KELTICKNIGHTT

    HERE is the hardware l want to use with new mobo

    memory = munskin pc3500 black /2 gig/ 4 x512 sticks
    cpu = amd x2 4400
    powersupply = thermaltake 680 watt
    as you can see has to be socket 939

    regards

    you know that 4 sticks of ram will limit any overclocking that you might want to do, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,799 ✭✭✭KELTICKNIGHTT

    dont overclock

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭hopeful

    dont overclock

    Is that a statement or an order? :D

    Do you have the other parts already? If it is, get a nice nForce4 Ultra/SLI board, and don't bother with the ASRock, the nForce chipset is far better supported than the ULI chipset used on it.

    If you don't have the parts already (i.e. the 939 chip), then you'd be stupid not to build a Conroe or AM2 system.

    If you dont intend to overclock Then why did you get pc 3500?? and not just standard pc 3200??

    Yeah as would i be. You arnt intereseted in the previously mentioned as rock??

    So you have a current system and want to migrate to PCI-E? Best advice would be for you to pick out a gfx card first, and then a motherboard to go with it thats suitable. As I said, any ASUS/DFI/MSI nforce 4 board should do, make sure the PSU is enough for the gfx.

    Look at it this way however, not only are you going to have to go PCI-E, but also to DDR2 and a new socket, so would you not be better hanging onto current system, and waiting a while, then buy all new gear when you can? Piecemeal upgrading is very hard when there's so much new tech out there.

    though about that,mu current cpu is good enough for good while,not interested in spending few grand in changing all,as l said only have cpu short while,x2 4400 runs good,have a thermaltake 680 watt psu,should be enough running on a water cooling system,as far as getting ddr2,dont see much difference at moment
    i'll either get one of msi n8n plat or asrock dual sata mobos,if l was to aim higher,wou ld get a dfi mobo like the cfx3200 as its one of best out there,but costs over €250,which is a lot for mobo,was looking at asus version of the dfi,but seem by other foruims to have alot of probs with a buzz noise and not reading certain hard drives,for that kind of money,wouldn't want any probs
    the asrock dual sata good,if l use a pci-e card,lose one of the 3 pci-standard slots and need a min if 3 pci standard slots,so that leaves one of the msi mobo's,so either i get the dfi and pay $250 or get one of the msi n8m mobos
    if the price droped more on the dfi mobo,would pay it in a shot,so will see

    939 motherboards aren't really going to drop in price, plus a motherboard isn't really a big expense so I wouldn't expect to make much of a saving.
