    As the subject suggest my ibook has gone casters up mode and its to expensive to repair. Looking for a cheap second hand mac lappy to cover me until the Core 2 Duo MBP comeout. Checked buyandsell and the prices were ridiculous and the I'm a little windy with ebay. Any advice?

    Are the Core Duo 2 chips not just the desktop versions of the Core Duo now in the MBP and MB? In other words, they will be used in the Apple desktop machines only?

    Core2Duo is the family;
    Conroe (4mb cache) & Allendale (2mb cache) are the desktop versions, Merom is the 64-bit CoreDuo replacement for laptops.

    (off the top of my head, may be a teeny bit wrong)

    @OP: what's wrong with the laptop? Is it worse than simple harddrive failure?
    Also, what kind of prices are you seeing for 2nd-hand iBooks/PBs?

    Hands off, you vultures :) I'll use the parts myself. As for whats up with it, the mainboard is dead (Not sure how) and it a chunk of change to fix that.
    Thanks all though. Got a few more leads from your suggestions. Keep em coming :)
