Is this the Amstrad one they've been selling for a while now? They were 38 euros a while back. Great cheap little player! Handles nearly everything!

If it's a plustron, is it model DVD988?

I brought it up in the last thread about cheap dunnes DVD players ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054947878 ), and info in thread says that the DVD988 doesn't do DivX etc...

    avi is a container,
as long as whats in that container is divx or xvid standard encoded then yes, it will play it.

thats the same style palyer alright.

    however,
i had one in my hands last week and it clearly said mpeg4 on the player, the SEL and the box.

im looking at an image of one now that says mpeg4 on the player.

I'm pretty sure it says it plays xvid on the side of the box.

I bought one, it's the plustron DVX-2250 MPEG4/DVD Player, it plays MPEG4. It plays DIVX, I tested it from a DVD-RW no problems, lovely little player too.

Anything on it to indicate that is plays DVD+R or DVD+RW?

No mention of + but don't know for sure, i suppose you have to get someone to test it.

I am interested in getting an MPEG4 DVD Player to play xvid files.

Is it just a case of dropping the xvid files onto a dvd?

Does the dvd player then realise there are seperate tv programmes on the dvd and give some sort of a menu to select a particulat episode?

Hopefully its not a case of have to fast forward through all the episodes to get to the one you want!!

    Any help would be appreciated!!

A root menu comes up on the screen of the files on the dvd, you can just select which one you want to play.

any one find that the lipsink goes a bit. can be rectified by pausing the film but it's worse with proper dvds??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,131 ✭✭✭subway

that used to happen to me on a different player.
make sure the video out is the same as the dvd/avi

if its ntsc and your outputting as pal theres a few extra frames per second,
thast builds up over a efw minutes to a complete loss of synch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,713 ✭✭✭branners69

So would people recommend this player??

Would I be better off putting a bit more money to it in order to get a better one? And if so which one suffers from lip sync the least?

Get a different DVD player, it's fine for DVDs but the syncing on divx is rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,713 ✭✭✭branners69

cheers for that, I was thinking the same..

I've watched plenty of divx/xvid etc since getting it and haven't had any problems with syncing.
